Chapter 10
Christopher tried to plead with me. “If you’ve forgotten, then why are you still wearing the bracelet I gifted you? Wen, I know I made a mistake. I’m here to explain to—”
However, before he could finish speaking, Samuel pulled my wrist and held me tightly in his arms. “Mr. Gardner, you’re here. I’m sorry that I didn’t get to welcome you properly. The guests are supposed to be outside, so you’ve scared my bride. By the way, did you mean this bracelet just now?”
Samuel grabbed my wrist and shook it. “The one you bought was a fake, and the one I bought from the auction is real. Of course, I was the one picking the jewelries for my wife. Mr. Gardner, please leave.”
Christopher’s face was apathetic, and his voice turned icy cold. “Wen is my bride!”
“She’s mine now!” Samuel refused to give in, and the two started arguing behind the stage.
When the music played, I pushed Christopher out. “Don’t waste time on him. The ceremony is starting.”
“My wife does have some skills. I’m impressed!” Samuel said.
I ignored Samuel’s mischievous look and lifted the curtain slightly.
Then, I saw the bodyguards had already taken Christopher down below the stage.
I had thought I would feel extremely miserable to end my relationship with him. But when I really had to do so, I realized it wasn’t as difficult as I had expected. What I thought was love was simply habits I had built over the years.
Our relationship had ended when he betrayed me for the first time, but I had only acknowledged it after Evelyn had gotten pregnant.
As the symphony played in the background, I could sense his burning gaze on me. Christopher stood below the stage, watching me as my hand was placed on another man’s palm.
At first, he lost control of his temper. Then, he gradually regained his composure. Slowly, the emotions in his eyes faded away, and his gaze dimmed completely.
After the wedding ceremony, the bodyguards finally released Christopher.
I was blocked at the end of the corridor. He gradually came closer to me while I kept stepping back. “What do you want?”
“I want you to marry me and stay with me.” Christopher’s eyes were bloodshot, his gaze laced with both obsession and threat.
I shielded myself with both hands and kept a distance from him. “That’s enough! Christopher, it’s over between us. Did you hear me? Everything is over!”
The next instant, Christopher raised his hands and started slapping himself on both cheeks. The sound of his slaps echoed in the air.
I had no idea how long it had been, but his cheeks were flushed and swollen, almost bleeding.
He said, “I know I was wrong. Wen, please. Give me a chance and forgive me. You only married Samuel because you’re angry at me, right? You don’t even like him. Why do you have to make your own life difficult?
“I got rid of Evelyn’s baby, so no one will ever come between us. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I wish you could give me a chance to make it up to you. I’ll never look at other women in the future. You’re my only wife!”
I pushed Christopher away forcibly, and he fell hard on the ground.
Even though I laughed, my eyes were dry and painful. “Christopher, who do you think you are? You asked me to forgive you after you cheated on me. Then, you told me to raise your bastard son because the woman was pregnant.
“Now that I’m married, you want me to call off the wedding. You think too highly of yourself, don’t you?
“I did love you, but that was in the past. Since you cut my belly with a dagger, fell out with me because of Evelyn, and forced me to get down on my knees, my feelings for you were gone completely!
“I’m really happy now, and I wish you and Evelyn the same.”
He cried out, “No! This is not true! I’ve never loved Evelyn. The one I love has always been you!
I’m just afraid that people might look down on me, thinking that I’m a loser who relies on a woman to get to where I am. I—”
I cut him off coldly before he could finish speaking. “I don’t care about your explanation, and your child is none of my business. Christopher Gardner, I can love someone with all my heart, but I can always leave when I’m wronged. Please never show up in front of me again.”
With that, I turned around and left, paying no heed to his reaction.
In the distance, Samuel was holding a bouquet of flowers. Then, he handed the flowers to me with a smile.
