Chapter 6
“It was Chuck calling”
I frowned. “What did he w
“He wants you to come back. He asked where you are and what you’re doing.”
“How did you respond?”
Lucien’s eyes suddenly became evasive, his ears turning red: “I said you were sleeping, then hung up.”
I fell silent.
The room stayed quiet for a long time, and without reassurance, he grew increasingly uncertain about my thoughts.
Gathering his courage, he leaned closer and asked: “Did I say something wrong?”
“No, you just told the truth.”
Though Chuck might misinterpret it.
But it didn’t matter–I didn’t care what he thought.
Leaving Lucien’s room, I figured Chuck and Isa must have returned to America.
They discovered I wasn’t in the hospital and called to check on my situation.
But I had left a letter for Dr. Sinclair.
After Chuck reads it, he’ll probably be thrilled.
In the letter, I mentioned our breakup and left him the house and money.
Lying in bed, I started feeling drowsy again.
I knew my body was growing weaker day by day, and even medication wasn’t helping much. Perhaps one day I’d fall asleep and never wake up.
As these thoughts drifted through my mind, the phone on my nightstand suddenly started vibrating.
When I didn’t answer, they called again.
The noise gave me such a headache that I finally answered.
Then I heard Chuck’s demanding voice: “Willow, where are you?!”
I picked up the phone, somewhat surprised by him.

“Did you see my letter?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Do you want to thank me in person? That’s not necessary.”
Chuck’s breathing grew heavy with anger: “Those were words some strange man tricked you into writing. I won’t agree to any of it! Come back immediately and continue treatment!”
I refused.
After ten seconds of standoff, Chuck suddenly lowered his head and apologized: “I’m sorry. I was wrong to think you were lying before.”
I remained silent.
He gradually began to plead: “There’s less than three months left. Please don’t gamble with your life out of spite,
okay?”
“No.”
A loud crash came from his end, as if something had shattered, accompanied by a woman’s scream.
So Isa was there too.
I suddenly changed my approach: “I’ll come back, but you must arrange the surgery. Have Dr. Sinclair notify me.”
Chuck was out of options and quickly agreed: “Okay.”
I calmly hung up, unable to suppress a cold laugh.
In the coming days, he would witness how quickly a gentle woman could change face.
Chuck breathed a sigh of relief and looked at Isa,
Over the years, he had taken good care of her.
From her previous state–in gambling debt and malnourished–to her current healthy, balanced physique and cheerful demeanor, she now fully met the surgical requirements.
He believed this brave, kind–hearted girl was also ready.
“Isa, in a couple of days when Willow/returns, we’ll proceed with the surgery.”
But after waiting a while, he never heard her say “okay.”
Chuck’s suspicions grew, and he prompted her: “Isa?”
A flash of ruthlessness crossed Isa’s face before she buried herself in the man’s arms, tears flowing.
“Chuck, I’m scared.”

Chuck continued to patiently comfort her: “Don’t be afraid. It won’t hurt–just close your eyes as if you’re taking a
nap.”
Isa raised her tear–streaked face, still struggling: “But…”
He firmly interrupted: “Enough! Willow can’t wait any longer!”
Chuck sensed something and pushed her away.
“You’re not backing out, are you?”
Isa completely panicked.
“Chuck, isn’t having me by your side enough?”
“What?”
Chuck couldn’t believe what he was hearing. He had only ever seen Isa as a sister.
But the more shocking revelation was yet to come.
Isa tore off her sweet, innocent mask, revealing her twisted side.
“Chuck, you like me very much.”
“You hugged me at Mount Fuji, kissed me in Hokkaido, made love to me in the Maldives. You were so happy with me. Why do you still care about someone who’s dying?”
“I know you feel guilty about Willow, so I can wait until she’s gone before we can be together properly. I love you more than she does, I understand you better.”
“Shut up!”
Chuck could barely contain his rage, clenching his fists to keep from striking her.
How dare she curse Willow?
How dare she?!
