Chapter 0024
ALEXANDER
Entering through the parking garage, I took my private elevator directly to my office, wanting to avoid passing Caleb in the main lobby, where I had Nathan seat him.
He could have waited on my floor, but I didn’t want him to overhear anything he shouldn’t or go snooping.
“Mr. Kingston!” Nathan greeted as he stood from his desk quickly. “What is the plan?”
“Breathe, Nathan. There isn’t one.” I said calmly as I pushed the door open to my office. Nathan sputtered, following me in. A hot cup of coffee sat on my desk, still steaming, and I knew he had rushed to get it for me as soon as he saw the light above my elevator turn on. “Caleb Johnson is not a threat. He’s just an annoying fly that won’t go away no matter how many times you swat at it.”
“So, you’re just going to let him in?” Nathan looked over his shoulder at the door to my office, and I smiled confidently as I nodded because, this time, I wasn’t going to just swat him away. I was going to crush him.
I was angry after what he had done to me and my business, but I was furious after what he did to Bailee and Brinley.
“Yes. I would like for you to escort him to my office personally.” I said as I sat at my desk and sipped the deliciously bitter coffee.
Nathan took a deep breath before masking his emotions and nodding. “Yes, Sir.”
His unwavering loyalty was one of the reasons that I paid him so well.
He was gone within a second, striding down the hallway to the elevator with his head held high. He returned only a few minutes later with Caleb Johnson in tow.
Nathan knocked on my open office door, and I clenched my teeth together when Caleb shouldered past him, not waiting for me to invite him in.
Nathan nodded once to confirm that he was okay before closing the door.
“Mr. Johnson, to what do I owe the pleasure?” I asked, seeing his eyes take in every detail of my office. They narrowed slightly at a few papers on my desk, but I had flipped them upside down, expecting him to snoop.
“What game are you playing here, huh?!” Caleb exclaimed as he placed both hands on my desk and leaned forward in a failed attempt to intimidate me.
Only nothing was intimidating about him. His lip was busted, and half of his face was almost orange from the thick layer of makeup he had on to cover the bruising.
“I assure you, I’m not playing one.”
“You think I’m stupid? It wasn’t a coincidence that the very day I got divorced, you swooped in to pick up my sloppy seconds!” Caleb hissed, and I watched him closely.
When someone was angry, their eyes typically narrowed, their nostrils flared, and their jaw clenched.
Instead, Caleb’s shoulders rose, and his head moved forward and down as he spoke. His eyes widened until he looked like an evil
cartoon character.
“Watch what you say about her!” I snapped, slowly and calmly standing from my chair. “You have some nerve coming in here after the bullshit you’ve pulled.”
“Or what? Are you going to attack me again? If you ever touch me again, I won’t just destroy you. I’ll take down every company you own!” His fist slammed down onto my desk as he shouted, and I tilted my head to the side in amusement.

“Good luck with that.” I gave him a cocky smirk, knowing I already had a team as large as his company investigating and creating a case against him. Still, the only person who would know his deepest, darkest secrets, the kinds of things that could take down his company quickly, would either be Bailee or his assistant, and there was no way in hell I would be going near the

“I have copies of all your financials, Kingston. The numbers don’t add up. Cross me again, and I will ruin you.” He smirked at me like he had won something, but I knew better. I ran a clean business, and everything was by the book. Nothing was written off unless no less than five CPAs approved it and could cite the bylaw that allowed it.
