Chapter 7
On the other side of town, Nolan fell seriously ill after the wedding disaster. His spirit collapsed completely.
Aside from the doctors and nurses, only Sienna came and went regularly, tending to his food, his meds, his every need.
On Nolan’s birthday, Sienna came into the room pushing a cake.
He hadn’t spoken in over ten days. But when he looked up and saw the cake, he finally opened his mouth.
“Who sent that?”
“M-Mrs. Eleanor Everett.”
Nolan’s brow furrowed hard. His bloodshot eyes filled with nothing but disgust.
“Throw it out. I don’t want to see it.”
Sienna didn’t understand how things between him and his grandmother had gotten this bad.
But she owed the old lady a lot. So in that moment, she couldn’t help but try and speak up for her.
Nolan wasn’t having it. His mood grew darker by the second. He grabbed a cup from the table and hurled it, smashing the
cake onto the floor.
The frustration Sienna had been bottling up for so long finally boiled over.
Tears spilling down her cheeks, she walked to his bedside, voice trembling with sorrow.
“If you want to blame someone, then blame me. But don’t take it out on her, okay? She’s old. Her health’s not great. She
can’t handle this kind of stress…”
Once upon a time, just the sight of her crying would’ve softened Nolan’s heart.
But now? She could cry all she wanted-his eyes stayed cold and empty.
“You think just because you’ve got her backing you, you can use this baby to marry into the Everetts? Let me make this clear-don’t kid yourself. I’ll never marry anyone but Maren. Not in this lifetime.”
Every word cut deeper than shattered glass on the floor, tearing Sienna’s heart to pieces.
Sienna shook her head again and again, sobbing so hard she could barely breathe.
“I-I never wanted a title. I just… I just wanted to stay by your side…”
Nolan didn’t want to hear another word. He yanked the IV from his hand and stormed out of the room.
Sienna panicked and chased after him. They reached the staircase-her right behind him-when she grabbed his hand and begged through tears.
“You’re still not well. Please, just go back and rest. I’m begging you.”
Nolan didn’t even hesitate. He flung her hand off.

She lost her balance and tumbled down the stairs.
A piercing scream filled the air as she rolled, terror written all over her face. She clutched her belly as best she could, but the blood still came-gushing, relentless.
Agony tore through her abdomen, like she was being ripped apart. Her mind blanked out everything except one desperate plea: Save the baby.
Her blood-soaked hand reached up toward Nolan at the top of the stairs. She cried soundlessly, begging him-pleading
for help.
Save their child.
Nolan froze at first, shock flickering across his face. He started down a few steps instinctively…
But at her plea, he froze.
The baby. Their baby.
If it was gone, maybe he could cut ties with Sienna completely. His grandmother wouldn’t pressure him anymore.
The last wall between them was finally gone. Maybe… maybe he still had a chance to fix things with Maren.
That single thought took root in his heart and spread like wildfire.
He stared down at her as she writhed in a pool of her own blood. A trace of hesitation passed through his eyes. But still, he didn’t move.
The dark liquid slowly seeped down the steps.
Her body grew weaker and weaker. The sound of her cries faded until there was nothing left.
Right before Sienna lost consciousness completely, Nolan said to her, calmly-
“The baby’s gone. Which means the deal is off. But I’ll double your payout. Just promise me… never show your face in Westbridge again. Don’t come near me or Maren for the rest of your life.”
