Time flew by.
Another New Year’s Day, Adelia went to the church on the outskirts as usual and prayed for the kids at Sunshine Orphanage.
There was still a chill in the mountains in early spring.
Adelia wrapped her cashmere shawl tighter and knelt on the cushion, bowing devoutly.
The scent of the church made her feel at ease.
Next, she went to the tall old tree by the church and touched the tree.
Suddenly, her eyes fell on a priest who was sweeping up fallen leaves with his head down.
The familiar figure made Adelia catch her breath.
It was Ethan.
The once arrogant Mr. Fargeat was now so thin his cheekbones stuck out, and the arrogance and fierceness in his eyes were gone.
Instead, there was a kind of almost transparent
calm.
“That’s Father Lucian.” A server saw her staring at Ethan and introduced him to her.
“Why did he… come here?”
“I heard he let down someone he loved, so he came here to atone.” The Server muttered, “The church is peaceful, a lot of people want to come

Ethan seemed to notice Adelia’s gaze and looked up.
The moment our eyes met, time seemed to stop.
Years of grudges and countless nights waking up from nightmares flashed through Adelia’s mind, then quickly faded away.
In the end, Ethan just gave her a deep bow, and then turned and left.
“What are you looking at?” Vaughn’s voice suddenly sounded right next
to my ear.
Adelia looked away and shook her head, “It’s nothing, just a priest I kind of recognized.”
She naturally took Vaughn’s arm, “Let’s go, it’s time to head down the mountain. The kids are still waiting for me to go back and do crafts with
them.”
Vaughn glanced thoughtfully in the direction where Ethan had disappeared, but didn’t ask anything.
On the way down the mountain, he held Adelia’s hand tight and said, “Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. What do you want as a gift?”
Adelia shook their joined hands and said, “Mr. Anderson, how about keeping tomorrow free? Instead of a gift, I’d rather have you go with me to Sunshine Orphanage for a picnic with the kids.”
“Okay, no problem.”
Adelia smiled, and the last bit of gloom in her heart was gone.
