Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Cassian was walking toward the stage when he heard the door open. His steps faltered, and he instinctively glanced toward the entrance. “So you finally decided to show up.”
He quietly let out a breath of relief, but the moment he saw who it was, his brows suddenly knit together. It was Naomi’s lawyer, Roy Carrington. Roy walked up to Cassian and raised the document envelope in front of him.
“Mr. Hartwell, Ms. Whitaker has entrusted me to deliver these to you,” Roy said in an impersonal, businesslike tone as he opened the folder and pulled out several documents.
“This is the marriage certificate between you and Ms. Sawyer from Avenmoor. This one is the fake marriage certificate between you and my client. From this point forward, your cohabitation ends, and you are to stay out of each other’s lives.
“The property you own together has been divided. My client has returned all the gifts you gave her. This is the itemized list.
“This is evidence of Ms. Rayna poisoning my client, along with the toxicology report. And this is my client’s miscarriage report.
“Also, this is evidence that you ordered people to assault my client. The attack had caused her serious harm. She reserves the right to pursue criminal charges at any time.”
Roy tossed the pieces of evidence one by one in front of Cassian, watching as the color gradually drained from his face.
With a mocking tone, Roy said, “Mr. Hartwell, if you and your wife can learn to behave and stop harassing Naomi, she’ll choose not to press charges.
“Also, she wishes you and your wife a blissful marriage. May you welcome a little one soon. There are several entertaining videos on this flash drive. Take your time and enjoy them, Mr.
Hartwell.”
With that, Roy turned and walked out of the banquet hall without even sparing Cassian a
glance. The guests at the banquet were all stunned, especially a few of Cassian’s close friends. The way they looked at Rayna had completely changed.
They had been helping someone this malicious deceive Naomi all along, and a deep sense of guilt crept in. One by one, they turned to look at Rayna, their gazes sharp and filled with disapproval.
“This isn’t true! Cassian, don’t believe him. Naomi’s trying to frame me!” Rayna’s cheeks burned with humiliation. In a panic, she lunged toward Cassian and sat on the documents, trying to hide them beneath her.
Chapter 12
Cassian stood frozen, his eyes bloodshot and terrifying. Every muscle in his body was tense as he looked at Rayna condescendingly. He instructed icily, “Get off me.”
“Cassian, please believe me! I love Naomi just as much as you do. How could I ever hurt her?” Rayna clung to his leg, sobbing and pleading.
He glared at her. His gaze was so fierce that it made her flinch. She couldn’t meet it and instinctively turned her head away in guilt.
“Get out. All of you! Get out!” Cassian roared at the crowd, his voice laced with a panic that was quickly consuming him from the inside.
Rayna quickly scrambled to her feet, but just as she took a step, Cassian remarked coldly, ” Rayna stays.”
She was shocked. She froze in place, trembling uncontrollably. She had never seen Cassian like this. He was so terrifying.
Cassian ordered the bodyguards to tie her to the chair, then plugged the flash drive into the laptop.
The first video began playing. It showed a hotel room in Avenmoor. It was captured through the narrow gap of a door. Inside, he and his friends were discussing his upcoming marriage to
Rayna.
The second clip showed him supporting Rayna during a prenatal checkup, followed by footage of him gently feeding her at the revolving restaurant.
The tenth clip was of Naomi lying alone in a hospital bed, tormented by the pain of losing her child. The last video was the video sent to Naomi by Rayna. Cassian was convinced that Naomi
was the one who had caused Rayna harm.
As the video ended, a deathly silence hung in the air. Cassian’s eyes were filled with a storm of grief and hatred. From beginning to end, Naomi had been the victim.
It was him. He had been the one who had pushed the woman who loved him most into the
abyss with his own hands.
