Chapter 227

“Who knows where she learned all this-always coming up with new tricks,” Nate muttered, shaking his head.

That’s when Carter spoke up, “She said she wants a divorce.”

Nate rolled his eyes with a sigh. “She’s been threatening that for ages. Has she ever followed through? She always uses it to pressure you. Honestly, I’m tired of hearing it, even if she’s not.

“She just brought up going to the courthouse to file for divorce because you didn’t show up for that date. If you had gone, she wouldn’t be talking about divorce at all.

“And anyway, divorces aren’t that simple anymore. There’s a mandatory cooling-off period now-and even getting an appointment to file takes forever.

“One of my buddies just went with his wife to start the cooling-off period, and guess what? The slots were full! He had to wait until next month just to get the appointment.

“Then there’s another full month of cooling-off after that. So, bare minimum, we’re talking two months. Sharon knows all this. She’s just using it to scare you.”

Nate’s voice rambled on until Carter cut in. “She already filed a lawsuit. Took it to court.”

Nate froze for a moment, disbelief flickering across his face-then he burst out laughing, even louder than before. 1 “Carter, come on. You can’t seriously believe that, can you? A court case? That takes even longer! My God, Sharon-what a drama queen. Just to get your attention, she’s willing to pull something like this?”

Carter said nothing, but the look on his face had darkened, his sharp features drawn tight in thought.

Was she really acting?

If she was… then the performance had been painfully convincing

Nate laughed until tears welled in his eyes. But noticing the expression on Carter’s face-cool, unreadable-he gradually sobered up.

“Alright, alright, don’t look so grim. Didn’t she say she’s already filed? If she wasn’t bluffing, you’ll be getting a call from the court soon enough. And if you don’t get that call… well, there’s your answer.”

Carter’s gaze drifted away. He didn’t respond.

Back at Uriah’s clinic, Matty and Kelly were learning how to identify different herbs. (1

Sharon glanced at them, then turned to Uriah.

The old man caught her eye and gave a small signal, motioning her to follow him inside.

Once they were in the back room, Sharon couldn’t hold it in any longer.

“Mr. Malcolm, what exactly is going on?”

Uriah let out a sigh-

“Nate came to me a while back,” he said. “I didn’t know who he was at the time and refused his request for a consultation. Didn’t expect he’d show up again yesterday-with your scumbag husband and his mistress in tow.”

He had never liked Carter. Seeing him tangled up in scandal after scandal, splashed across the gossip pages with another woman

Uriah had long wanted to teach him a lesson.

But he lived a quiet life, tucked away in this run-down little clinic. The will was there, but not the means.

Now, age had caught up with him. His children had been begging him to move back home. His eldest son had even drawn a hard line-if Uriah didn’t return this year, they’d drag him back by force.

The Malcolm family was thriving in the business world now, but few knew it had all started with Uriah’s remarkable medical skills in his younger years.

The world-renowned private hospital Aurora Hospital was founded by the Malcolm family.

Aurora Hospital had been named after Uriah’s late wife.

The hospital had been around for decades, with branches all over the globe. But few knew it belonged to the Malcolm family.

And fewer still realized that this seemingly unremarkable old man was the true major shareholder behind it all.
