Chapter 235

Sharon gently patted Matty on the head, her voice calm as she offered comfort. “It’s alright. I’m calling the police.”

As she spoke, the call connected. Her expression remained composed, yet the voice she used was thick with panic. “There’s a madman outside… he’s trying to break down the door,” she said breathlessly. “He’s screaming that he’s going to kill us. It’s terrifying. There’s a five-year-old child in here, and an elderly man over seventy… we’re no match for him.”

She switched to speakerphone.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The violent pounding on the door filled the room like thunder.

The officer’s voice on the other end turned grave. “Stay hidden if you can. Find anything nearby to use as a weapon. We’re on our

way.”

When the call ended, Matty still looked uneasy. “Sharon… do you think we’ll make it until the police get here?”

Sharon smiled faintly. “We will. Don’t worry.”

She then turned to Uriah. “Uriah, do you have any medication here that causes allergic reactions?”

He understood her instantly. His lips curved into a cold smirk. “First time someone’s had the guts to stir up trouble in my place. Let’s see if I can give him a little something to remember.”

Without hesitation, he began pulling jars and vials from a cabinet, mixing powders together haphazardly.

Crash!

The door finally gave way under the relentless assault and collapsed with a deafening thud.

Uriah didn’t miss a beat. He tossed a handful of powder straight into Nate’s face. “Cover your nose and mouth!” he barked.

Sharon and Matty obeyed immediately.

Nate had just stepped across the threshold when the cloud of powder hit him full force.

Whatever was in the mix, it worked fast. His eyes instantly felt like they were on fire-searing, unbearable pain.

The eyes, so fragile and sensitive, betrayed him first. Nate dropped to the floor, screaming, clutching his face, rolling on the ground like a man aflame.

In no time at all, angry red welts bloomed across his skin. 1

He began clawing at himself-his face, his arms-tearing long, bloody streaks into his own flesh.

“It burns! It itches! Ahhhh!” He howled like a dying dog, “Kelly! Help me! Please!”

Kelly had started forward instinctively, but the scene made her freeze. She backed away in horror, not daring to get any closer.

By the time Nate finally stilled, he was barely conscious, wrecked by pain and covered in bloody scratches.

No one knew how long it took, but eventually, the police arrived.

Even the officers were stunned by what they saw. One of them quickly dialed emergency services, and Nate was taken to the hospital.

In the hospital room, Nate lay bandaged head to toe, looking like a mummy, still raging through gritted teeth.

“I swear I’m going to have that bitch Sharon, that damn old bastard, and that little brat all thrown in jail! Goddamn it, they did this to me! I’ll make them regret ever being born!”

His anger had blinded him completely-he’d forgotten that Sharon was still Carter’s wife. And Matty, the little boy he wanted to punish, was the son of Xavier.

These weren’t people he could just trample over.

Kelly sat quietly by his side, offering soothing words, but her tone carried an undercurrent of suggestion, each sentence stoking his fire a little more.

About ten minutes later, Carter arrived.

He rubbed his temples as he entered the room, visibly drained. “What happened now?”

He’d just signed a contract and was on his way back to the office when Kelly’s call came in.

Nate, still seething, shouted, “It was Sharon! Sharon, that brat, and that stinking old man-they ganged up on me and landed me in the damn hospital!”
