Loving Mom 230

Chapter 240

Carter was stunned-furious and bewildered all at once.

Sharon had actually dared to do this to him?

She picked up a disinfectant wipe from the table and, without a flicker of emotion, wiped her chin and wrist clean.

“What’s got you so worked up?” Her voice was even, almost indifferent. “Didn’t you use to bargain with me the same way? Didn’t you threaten me with Theo, just like this?”

She tossed the wipe into the trash and looked at him, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly-not quite a smile.

“You were a good teacher. I only learned from the best.”

The image of Sharon’s stubborn refusal to apologize to Kelly flickered in his mind, and for a moment, Carter found it hard to

breathe.

She wasn’t wrong. He had threatened her like that before.

Not missing the shift in his expression, Sharon softened her tone just slightly.

“Nate’s future… your precious Kelly’s life… are those really worth less than money?”

Carter narrowed his eyes: “I’m not giving you half of everything I own.”

A trace of cold amusement stirred in Sharon’s chest.

So this was it. His ridiculous, mindless favoritism toward Kelly-it had its limits. As long as it didn’t cost him anything. The moment it touched his bottom line, even Kelly wouldn’t be immune.

Of course, Sharon had never expected to get half.

That was just the opening bid-something to bargain down from.

“You don’t want to give me company shares, I get that,” she said. “And transferring property titles is just too much of a hassle.”

She looked straight at him. “Let’s make it simple. 100 million. If you’re willing to pay that, I’ll sign the agreement. I’ll even convince Mr. Malcolm to make the antidote-for Nate, for Kelly’s treatment.”

Something occurred to her, and she added calmly, “I can promise you-her illness can be cured. Your money won’t be wasted. These past weeks, you’ve been running around finding doctors for her. That can’t have come cheap, either.”

She ticked off the points like they were items on a receipt. “That 100 million covers compensation for the divorce, damage to this shop, mental distress for Mr. Malcolm and Matty… Nate’s future… and Kelly’s life. Carter, this deal isn’t a loss for you. Wouldn’t you agree?”

His dark gaze lingered on her face. After a beat, the corner of his mouth lifted. “You drive a hard bargain.”

Sharon gave a faint smile. “For someone like you, anything that can be solved with money isn’t really a problem at all. 100 million might be generational wealth for most people. But for you, it’s not even a year’s income.

“Matty’s father heard what happened. He’s already on his way back. If he finds out Nate almost killed his son… do you really think he’ll just let that go?”

A flash of icy anger passed through Carter’s eyes. “Sharon. Don’t talk nonsense.”

She pointed toward the door. “Why don’t you check the surveillance footage, Carter? See for yourself just how terrifying Nate looked at the time. Matty is just a five-year-old child. He was absolutely terrified by Nate. You think the police would arrest Nate just on our word? Without real evidence?”

Chapter 240

The main lobby of the clinic had security cameras. The inner room didn’t.

When Nate kicked down the door and barged in, he got a full face of medicinal powder.

He hadn’t even realized what hit him-he’d assumed it was just some fallen shelving, nothing serious

And the cameras hadn’t captured any of it.

Silence settled in the room.

Carter didn’t say a word for a long time.
