Chapter 248

Sharon pulled a small medicine bottle from her bag. “This is Nate’s antidote.”

Nate snatched it up with a speed that bordered on desperation.

Carter’s gaze, calm and cold as a winter lake, fixed on her. “What about Kelly’s?”

Sharon replied, “Kelly’s medicine will be handed over one month from now, after our divorce is finalized and the 100 million you promised has been transferred to my account.”

The terms between Sharon and Carter were clear: a clean exchange, nothing left hanging.

Although Kelly’s illness required a course of treatment rather than a one-time cure, Sharon had promised Carter that Uriah would prepare the full supply of medicine in one go, to avoid any future complications.

She also agreed to provide the full prescription, dosage instructions, and a detailed treatment plan in writing.

If the medication ran out later, Uriah would continue to supply it.

And if the treatment didn’t work? Well, no one deceived Carter and walked away unscathed. People didn’t just take that much money from him and get away with it.

Nate suddenly cut in, “Sharon, you’re not handing over Kelly’s medicine right now because you’re afraid it might be exposed as fake, and then you won’t get that 100 million, right?”

Sharon turned and looked at him. “Exactly. I’m not just afraid I’ll lose the 100 million. I’m afraid I won’t even be able to get divorced.”

Nate choked on her bluntness.

He had considered, once he got his hands on the medicine for Kelly, claiming it didn’t work-regardless of whether it did or not.

That way, Carter would blame Sharon and make her suffer the consequences.

But he’d overlooked one crucial thing: during the divorce cooling-off period, if either party backed out, the divorce wouldn’t go through.

If Sharon suddenly changed her mind and clung on shamelessly, then out of respect for Theo, Carter might not be able to do anything about it.

So the priority now was clear: make sure Carter finalized the divorce.

Sharon looked up again and met Carter’s eyes.

“Uriah needs time to prepare the medicine. You think life-saving drugs are that easy to make? If it were that simple, you wouldn’t have spent all this time hunting down famous doctors who couldn’t do a thing.”

She sounded convincing, rattling off her lines with the composure of someone telling absolute nonsense like it was gospel truth.

“Besides, Kelly still needs to stay with Uriah for a few more days. She fainted before, was hospitalized-it all delayed the treatment. She has to make up for that time. If I give you all the medicine now, and she just doesn’t show up the next day, Uriah absolutely won’t provide anything further.”

This time, both Nate and Carter stayed silent, each lost in their own thoughts.

Sharon thought to herself, ‘No wonder Kelly loves lying so much. Lying to idiots… feels amazing.’

Especially since Kelly wasn’t even sick, Sharon could do whatever she wanted.

Lately, she’d been grinding medicinal powders every day. Kelly thought it was part of her duties for Uriah. She had no idea Sharon was making her so-called “life-saving medicine.”

In truth, Uriah had brought Sharon in to help. He didn’t have time to waste on a faker like Kelly.

And since Sharon had studied alternative medicine with Uriah for a while, everything-formulation, dosage, treatment planning –had fallen on her shoulders.

As she worked through the endless steps of making the medicine by hand, Sharon finally understood why the old man despised those who insisted they were ill when they weren’t.

The process of preparing the medicine was painstaking and exhausting. Even she could barely keep up.
