Chapter 249
Sharon had even called Wendy over to help.
The moment Wendy found out that Sharon was making the “life-saving medicine” for Kelly, her interest piqued immediately. With a gleeful lack of decency, she boiled the herbs using her footbath water, and even spat into the mixture a few times for good measure.
Matty, not to be outdone, somehow got his hands on rat droppings and added them to the pot.
Sharon tossed in a few cockroaches, ground everything into powder, and shaped it into pills.
The herbs themselves were nothing special-common enough that they couldn’t cure a disease, but harmless enough not to kill anyone either.
Then, as if remembering something, Sharon changed the subject. “But Mr. Malcolm has already prepared the first round of medication. We can give it to Kelly now.”
She glanced at Nate and Carter. “I need to head to the clinic later. Want to come with me?”
Nate had just been thinking how perfect it would be to share the good news of Sharon and Carter’s impending divorce with Kelly. So he agreed without hesitation.
Carter considered it for a few seconds, then gave a slight nod.
At the clinic, Kelly listlessly sorted through the shelves of medicinal herbs, her gaze drifting repeatedly to the door, a quiet tension in her posture. Her eyes held a nervous eagerness.
Neither Sharon nor Matty had shown up today.
Matty was at school.
Sharon was handling divorce paperwork with Carter.
Nate had said he’d go to the courthouse to check on the situation for her, but he still hadn’t sent her any updates.
She had no idea whether Sharon and Carter had actually gone through with it.
Just as she was beginning to grow restless, three figures stepped into the clinic.
Her eyes lit up. She dropped the herbs in her hands and rushed toward them.
“Carter! What are you doing here? Isn’t work busy today?”
Her gaze was fixed solely on Carter, as if Sharon and Nate weren’t even there.
Sharon was used to it and didn’t care in the slightest.
But Nate felt a sting.
“Kelly, I just got out of the hospital a few days ago, and you’re not even going to ask how I’m doing?” His voice held a note of complaint. “Is Carter the only one you care about?”
Only then did Kelly seem to register Nate’s presence. “Of course not. I just wanted to say hi to Carter first, that’s all.”
She was a natural at sweet-talking.
“You’ve been so good to me, Nate. If I weren’t tied up, I’d have taken care of you in the hospital myself.”

Nate was immediately soothed, his face breaking into a foolish grin “Really?”
Kelly nodded earnestly. “When have I ever lied to you?”
Then, almost as an afterthought, she glanced at Sharon. “Sharon, did you run into Carter and Nate at the door? What a
coincidence.”
Sharon replied calmly, “Not really. We just came from the courthouse together.”
Kelly blinked, feigning confusion. “Courthouse? What for?”
Sharon raised an eyebrow. “What, they didn’t tell you? Carter’s gone to great lengths to cure your illness. He’s even willing to get divorced for you… At this point, I doubt he’d even flinch if he had to die for you.”
“That’s enough.” Carter’s voice cut in, low and curt. His brows furrowed slightly. “Aren’t you here to deliver the medicine?”
Sharon let it go with a smile. “Of course. I’ll go get it now.”
A few minutes later, she returned with a small medicine bottle and a bottle of mineral water.
She handed the water to Kelly and, with her own hands, took out a single pill. “This is the first round of the treatment. Go ahead and take it, Kelly. Don’t delay your recovery.”
