Chapter 265

This was the treatment room. There weren’t any surveillance cameras here. Kelly could say whatever she wanted, and no one could refute her

Just then, Uriah, having finished seeing his patient, walked over. He heard Kelly’s explanation and responded coolly, “Oh? You grabbed the wrong bottle, and now it’s somehow my fault?”

Sharon said sharply, “If you didn’t know whether the bottle could be used or what was in it, couldn’t you ask? Did someone sew your mouth shut?” A thin smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.

Kelly lowered her head, eyes brimming with tears. “I’m sorry. I was being careless. I wasn’t paying attention.”

“Have you ever considered,” Sharon’s voice sliced through the air, her eyes sharp and unrelenting, “what your carelessness could have meant for the patient? For this clinic? That’s a human life we’re talking about. If someone had taken that medicine and something went wrong, Mr. Malcolm would be the one held responsible!”

By the time she finished, her tone had risen involuntarily, tinged with real anger. She was genuinely upset now.

She could tolerate Kelly selling her sob story, twisting the truth in front of Carter. But to endanger someone’s life out of jealousy and spite?

Unforgivable.

Kelly instinctively looked at Carter. His dark, fathomless eyes were already on her, sending a cold shiver through her spine.

“I… I really didn’t mean to…” she muttered, then suddenly dropped to her knees with a loud thud, her forehead slamming hard against the ground.

“Sharon, I understand now. It doesn’t matter why I did it-wrong is wrong. I’ll accept whatever punishment you think I deserve, as long as you’re willing to forgive me.”

Her head hit the ground again. Hard Within seconds, blond seeped from a small cut on her forehead.

Carter’s pupils contracted. He stepped forward and caught her, stopping her from hurting herself further.

“Kelly, what are you doing? Get up!”

Tears streamed endlessly down Kelly’s cheeks. “You’ve done so mach-gone through so much trouble just to get medicine for me. And now I’ve gone and angered Sharon I’m sorry, Carter. I really am useless. I’ll take full responsibility for what happened today.

“Even if Sharon decides to send me to prison, I’ll accept it. Just… please, I hope Sharon won’t blame you.”

Carter understood the subtext immediately. His eyes darkened

“She can’t just send you to prison on a whim. And the medicine-it’s not up to her to withhold either.”

At that moment, even Uriah was left speechless by Kelly’s performance.

‘My God,’ he thought. ‘Her acting’s even better than my daughter-in-law, an Oscar winner!’

Carter turned to Sharon, whose face was calm but whose eyes were shooting daggers. “If you caught her making a mistake, just tell her. Why go so hard on her?”

Sharon smiled faintly. “Why? Because I don’t like her.”

Carter’s expression hardened. “Sharon, I brought Kelly here to help out, not to be humiliated.”

Sharon ignored him entirely. She handed the porcelain bottle to Uriah.

“Mr. Malcolm, please keep this safe.”

He took it, gave Kelly a sideways glance, and said, “You’ve really got a rotten conscience.”

He still had medicine to prepare and patients to treat. He didn’t have time to waste on this drama. Without another word, he turned and walked away.

Sharon looked away as well.

If Kelly wanted to go all out-kneeling, apologizing, even breaking her own skin-then fine. It wasn’t like Sharon had lost anything. There was no point dragging this out any longer.

Besides, the divorce would be finalized soon anyway.

She was just about to turn and leave when a strong hand suddenly gripped her wrist.

“Sharon,” Carter said, “if you don’t want a divorce, stop with these cheap tricks and admit you were wrong.”
