Loving Mom 274

Chapter 274

The only thing that truly sobers people up is self-interest.

And maybe it was time for Nate to sober up.

Wendy looked puzzled. “Didn’t Nate want you and Carter to get divorced more than anything? You’re almost there now-why would he try to sabotage it?”

Sharon continued browsing through the display case. “Probably because he doesn’t want me to have it easy. He wants me stuck playing housekeeper for the Biggs family. But there’s another possibility…”

Wendy asked, “What possibility?”

“That Julliard was lying to me.”

Wendy didn’t even hesitate. “The first one’s more likely. Julliard’s sharp. He wouldn’t go out of his way to meet you just to tell a lie that’s so easy to expose.”

She paused, brows drawing together. “Still… it never hurts to be cautious. What if he was lying?”

Sharon said lightly, “Then so be it. To be honest, I’ve had enough of Nate for a long time. About time he learned a lesson.”

Over the years, Nate had gotten more than his fair share of orders and perks from the Biggs Group.

If not for Carter and Julliard constantly pulling strings for him, his companies would’ve gone under long ago-his investment instincts were laughable.

Carter had helped him that much, so of course Nate tried to return the favor. Anytime Carter spent money at one of his businesses, it went on Nate’s tab.

But Carter only wore custom-made clothes and rarely visited any of Nate’s shops. He never spent much. A few hundred thousand at most-Nate barely blinked at those numbers.

But ten million? That was different.

Wendy laughed too, catching on. “Yeah, they both deserve it.”

Nate should’ve minded his own damn business instead of trying to sabotage Sharon’s divorce. And as for Carter-he tried to use her, and now he was paying for it.

Nate stormed into Carter’s office, clutching a stack of bills so thick it looked like a manuscript. Dozens of pages long.

“Carter! Sharon is out of control! She’s been shopping at all the malls under the Hendricks Group and putting everything on my

account!”

His voice trembled with fury, and his eyes were bloodshot.

“Do you know how much she’s spent? Ten million! A whole ten million!”

His chest heaved with every breath, the words squeezing out between clenched teeth.

“She didn’t just stop at the malls-she went to other businesses under the Hendricks umbrella too! Including the ones run by those damn illegitimate brothers of mine!”

Nate’s father treated all his adult children the same, giving each of them a few companies to manage, to see who would come

out on top.

On paper, all the businesses looked like they were under the Hendricks Group, but in reality, it was a battlefield-pure competition.

Nate had already suffered several defeats at the hands of his half-brothers. One had even set him up, nearly running his company into the ground.

It was only thanks to Carter’s help that he survived the fallout.

He hated those sneaky bastards.

If Sharon had spent all that money in his stores, maybe he could’ve swallowed it.

But that damn woman went and funneled cash into the businesses of his rivals!

Carter frowned faintly. “How could her purchases be charged to your account?”

Nate practically ground his teeth. “Because I said your expenses would go on my account. And now she’s waltzing around every high-end Hendricks-owned mall, waving your marriage certificate and scamming everyone!”

Sharon knew that saying she was Carter’s wife wouldn’t be enough on its own-no one would believe it.

So she carried the marriage certificate with her wherever she went.

Just this morning, Nate had even received a call from one of his most cunning brothers, Luther Hendricks.
