“A shame what?” Nate asked.
“She got married too young. Her husband treats her poorly-he keeps other women on the side. And for the sake of her family and her son, she gave up everything she once loved.”
Nate frowned. “Julliard, there are so many amazing women in the world. She’s married, has a kid-she’s not right for you anymore. Time to move on.”
“No.” Julliard cut him off, and for once, his face turned serious. “She’s not the one who doesn’t deserve me. I’m the one who doesn’t deserve her.”
Nate blinked. “Wait-Julliard… don’t tell me you’re still hung up on her?”
Julliard said quietly, “I used to think that as long as she was happy, it didn’t matter if she wasn’t with me. But now… I see she’s worse off than before she got married. If her husband can’t give her happiness, then maybe… maybe I can.”
Nate stared at him, wide-eyed. “Damn, Julliard. Didn’t think you had it in you to be the sentimental type. What are you planning? Don’t tell me you’re thinking of taking her back.”
“Why not?”
Nate let out a low laugh and raised a thumbs-up. “Well, if after all these years you still haven’t let her go, then I’m behind you. Go for it, man. Chase what you love.”
From that point on, Nate and Julliard kept talking, but Carter had lost interest. He didn’t bother listening anymore.
The moment Kelly heard the woman in question was married with a child, she tuned out too. Not once did she think the woman Julliard mentioned might be Sharon.
