Loving Mom 312

Chapter 312

Carter had always considered himself above petty schemes like framing Sharon.

The only thing he ever involved himself in was freezing her 100 million in assets. That part-yes–he had personally arranged.

But just freezing. Nothing more.

He made no move to retrieve the money, nor did he make any effort to claim it back for himself.

Nate, who had been close buddies with him for years, knew exactly why. It wasn’t that Carter was being generous or indifferent about that 100 million.

No. He was forcing Sharon’s hand.

In Carter’s mind, this divorce wasn’t the end. Not really.

He had countless ways to stall it, to drag her back, to make it impossible for her to leave. But he didn’t use any of them.

Because he wanted her to understand something-without him, she was nothing.

If he didn’t let her hit the wall, didn’t let her suffer a little, she’d always hold onto some childish illusion of freedom.

Let her try. Let her see how brutal the world could be. Let her realize that without his protection, even surviving would be a struggle.

And when that realization hit, she’d come crawling back. On her own. And completely defeated. (1)

That was the plan.

So no-he didn’t stop Nate from stirring the pot. But he didn’t help Nate either.

Nate’s eyes lit up when he spotted Carter moving through the crowd.

“Carter’s here!”

Kelly glanced between Sharon-still surrounded by reporters-and Carter, who was approaching with his usual calm, measured

pace.

She whispered, “Nate… do you think Carter’s gonna be mad… seeing her getting hounded like this?” 1

“Mad? At what?” Nate scoffed. “He’s probably glad. We just handed him the perfect excuse to force her to come begging. Although…”

Kelly picked up on the unsaid part, smiling faintly. “Although… with Sharon’s personality, it’s unlikely she’ll ever bow her head.

Nate nodded. “Exactly. The more stubborn she gets, the worse it’ll blow up between them. Once that happens, we can do whatever we want. No need to worry about what Carter thinks.”

For now, Nate was still holding back. He couldn’t go too far-yet.

If he really wanted to destroy Sharon, one smear campaign would do it. A little rumor, a little dirt, and Sharon wouldn’t be able to show her face in public again.

“Wait… is that… Carter? Why is he here?”

Chapter 312

“Don’t tell me… what that woman said earlier was true?”

A few reporters paled as realization sank in.

Moments ago, they’d been grilling Sharon-asking whether she’d been impersonating Mrs. Biggs to scam people and if that was why she’d ended up in police custody.

Her answer had been calm. “Back then… I hadn’t divorced Carter yet. At the time, I was, without a doubt… Mrs. Biggs.”

She wasn’t stupid. She wasn’t going to stand there silently, letting rumors devour her. Divorce or not, she had no reason to protect Carter’s image-or the Biggs family’s-anymore.

The reporters had frozen when she said it.

No one told them… she really was Mrs. Biggs.

Or more accurately… had been.

And the real bombshell-when exactly had they divorced? Was it recent? Was it official?

Before anyone could process it… Carter himself appeared.

Was he here… to defend his ex-wife?

A sudden ripple of unease spread through the crowd of reporters.

None of them had the guts to piss off Carter.

Carter’s sharp gaze swept across the scene, momentarily freezing when it landed on Sharon trapped in the middle of the swarm.

Off to the side, Nate raised a hand in greeting, flashing him a meaningful glance.

It was enough. One glance told Carter everything he needed to know.

The reporters, sensing the shift, surged toward Carter like bees to honey. But not with the same recklessness they’d shown Sharon.

No shoving. No rude questions. Not a single toe stepped out of line.
