Chapter 10
I scoffed, “Business doesn’t operate on emotions.”
“When I married Damien and you handed me that prenuptial agreement to voluntarily give up assets, isn’t that exactly what you
said?”
“You always treat life as a power game, every relationship as a transaction.”
“Now I can finally play by your rules. I believe you’ll respect that.”
Damien’s parents left, their faces full of frustration and shame.
But I didn’t stop. As Damien’s company stock plummeted, I continued buying-quietly gaining control.
When Damien chaired the next shareholders’ meeting, sitting across from him was me.
He stared at me obsessively, even forgetting to speak.
Lana and Lila sat on either side of him, now looking at me with venomous hatred.
My gaze briefly glanced at Lila’s round belly with a cold smile.
Damien still looked at me without saying anything.
I coldly reminded him, “Damien, the board is waiting. Please report on the company’s current cash flow situation.”
Damien pressed his lips tightly, his face rigid, finally lowering his gaze-under the shareholders’ scrutiny, he was forced to face reality.
After the meeting, Damien caught me outside the conference room.
“Elara, could I take you to dinner?”
Afraid I’d refuse, he quickly added, “That restaurant you used to like-they just released a new seasonal menu.”
Behind him, Lila suddenly clutched her stomach and exclaimed, “Oh! Damien, I think something’s wrong. My stomach hurts.”
Damien turned around and slapped her hard, “If your stomach hurts, see a doctor! What’s the use of looking for me?”
Lila flinched, eyes widening.
“I think I’m about to give birth. Damien, can you accompany me to the hospital?”
Lana kept glaring at me fiercely, “I didn’t expect you to be so lucky. After divorcing Damien, you could still marry a San Francisco billionaire.”
“I guess we should study your ‘good girl behavior’ carefully.”
I looked at Damien with a cold smile, “Of course, you can take me to dinner.”
“But I have one condition.”
Damien said excitedly, “Tell me, I’ll agree to any condition.”
I pointed at Lana, “I want her to serve coffee.”
Chapter 10
Lana immediately screamed, “Impossible! What makes you think you can order me around?”
Damien slapped Lana again, “What are you to speak to Elara like that?”
“You’re just… distractions.”
“Don’t think that just because Elara isn’t by my side, you can replace her. I only recognize Elara as my wife in this lifetime.”
When we arrived at the restaurant, Thorne was already waiting, smiling as he came to greet me.
He reached out to hold my hand, “Are you tired today?”
I shook my head and gently hugged him, “Not tired.”
He skillfully pulled out my chair for me.
Damien followed awkwardly behind, his face gloomy.
He looked at me with a bitter smile, “I thought you would dine with me alone.”
I raised an eyebrow, “I’m married. How could I be so inappropriate as to dine alone with a man?”
Damien immediately fell silent, knowing I was mocking him.
We had just started eating when Lila clutched her stomach again.
“Damien, I’m going into labor!”
Damien’s face twisted with disgust.
He slammed his plate onto Lila with a bang, “You’re pregnant, you should stay home. Why did you have to follow me?”
Lana was crying beside them, “My sister is carrying your child! How can you be so cruel?”
Damien angrily pushed her away, “Get lost!”
Then he looked at me, his voice becoming gentle, “Ignore them. Let’s continue eating.”
I raised an eyebrow and called the waiter, “Please call an ambulance for this pregnant woman.”
At that moment, Damien’s phone rang-his father was cursing loudly, “Damien, enough! You can’t keep dragging the company down
with your affairs. If anything happens to the child in Lila’s belly, you’re finished. I’ll personally strip you of your CEO title!”
