The fact that she was chosen as Thomas‘ assistant had nothing to do with Thomas at all–it was all Gabriel’s decision!
But just now, she had acted like a fool, going to him to ask for reasons!
Oh my god!
Thomas must have thought of her as a complete clown. No wonder he had that half–smiling, mocking expression earlier! He was actually making fun of her!
Rosalie felt like she had made an utter fool of herself! And to make matters worse, she had given him the chance to humiliate her!
Of course, someone had been rather cruel by not exposing her!
This was maddening!
Rosalie felt frustrated and started scratching her head.
“What are you doing? What’s with the sulking?” Gabriel asked when he saw her scratching her head.
His question only made Rosalie feel more wronged. She pouted and said, “Dr. Lewis, let’s talk. Can you get someone else to do this?”
“Get someone else? What’s going on? You get such a good opportunity, and now you’re feeling wronged?”
“Of course not! How could I feel wronged? It’s just that I’m worried I won’t be able to do the job well! Dr. Lewis, if you don’t mind, why not let Gina do it? Look, her performance is way better than mine. She’d be more suitable!”
“Rosa, I know you and Gina get along well, but I picked you after careful consideration. While Gina is more accomplished, you’re sharper and more meticulous. So you’re definitely the best choice for this! Just stick with Dr. Lange and focus on your work. If you do well, you’ll have more chances to advance here. You’re the student I trust most, so don’t let me down!”
When Gabriel said this, Rosalie fell silent, feeling the weight of his expectations on her shoulders.
At this point, if she kept dwelling on it, it would only seem ungrateful.

“Alright, alright, that’s settled then! Go on, be busy! Stay on your toes with Dr. Lange!”
Rosalie trudged back to the department office.
It seemed that this was the only way it was going to be settled.
Was this fate, or just bad luck?
Forget it!
Rosalie straightened her back, slapped her face, and gave herself a little pep talk.

She could always play along with Thomas from now on! As long as she didn’t slip up, he probably wouldn’t ever find out about Star!
He didn’t even know about that night six years ago, so how could he know about Star?
Thinking about it that way, Rosalie felt much more at ease.
Maybe after the way she’d just acted, Thomas was thinking about switching assistants? After all, when he’d told her to get lost earlier, his face had clearly said, “Let’s never speak again!”
Rosalie mulled over this as she walked back to the office, but just as she was about to sit down, she heard a nurse calling out to her from the hallway. “Dr. Hawthorne, Dr. Lange wants to see you. He’s asked you to come to his office!”
What?
Rosalie paused.
She had just left his office, hadn’t she?! It had only been two minutes! And now he was asking her to go
back?
“Dr. Hawthorne?”
When Rosalie didn’t respond, the nurse kindly called out again.
“Ah, I’m here! Okay, I’ll go.”
“You’d better hurry, or Dr. Lange will think I didn’t pass the message along in time!”
“Okay, I’m going now, right away!”
Rosalie replied eagerly, but she never left the chair she was sitting on.
