“A VIP patient has just been admitted to Room 105 on the 16th floor. Go find out the patient’s condition and report back to me later.”
Thomas barely gave Rosalie a chance to catch her breath before issuing his orders.
Rosalie shot him an irritated glance but didn’t say much. Grabbing the schedule off the desk, she turned to leave.
“Rosalie!”
She barely made it to the door when his voice rang out.
“What now, Dr. Lange?” Rosalie rolled her eyes dramatically as she turned to look at him.
Thomas stood with his hands casually stuffed into his pants pockets, his posture upright and commanding as he looked down at her. “Choosing you wasn’t my idea, but keeping you? That was entirely my decision.”
“Why?” Rosalie frowned, genuinely baffled.
“Besides having a legitimate reason to boss you around like this, what else could it possibly be for?”
Rosalie was rendered speechless.
That raised eyebrow–what was that supposed to mean? Was he showing off? Gloating?
“You’re a pervert!” Rosalie snapped, flushed with anger and embarrassment. Her face burned bright red.
Thomas, unfazed, nodded as if acknowledging a compliment. “I’ll do my best to live up to the title you’ve so graciously bestowed on me.”
D*mn it!
Rosalie nearly choked, feeling as though she might cough up blood from sheer frustration. If she ever had a heart condition, she was certain this man would be the death of her.
“Fine! Perverted mentor, rest assured I will not let your twisted teachings go to waste. I’ll strive to become the ‘perfect‘ assistant–one with poor character but impeccable emotional, resilience! Goodbye!”

With that, Rosalie stormed out of his office. On her way out, she didn’t forget to hook her long leg back and kick the door shut with a loud bang.
Passing by Thomas’s office, Roxy caught the scene and gawked in shock. “Wow, Dr. Hawthorne! I didn’t know you had such guts. Acting like that toward the new head of the department? Isn’t he still technically your mentor?”
Rosalie quickly plastered on a humble smile. “Roxy, you’ve got it all wrong. That kick was just because my hands were full at the moment. Look! I was holding these files!”
The last thing she wanted was for anyone in the hospital to catch on to the strange, complicated relationship she had with Thomas. If that ever got out, clearing it up would only become more impossible.
After dropping off the schedule in her office, Rosalie immediately headed to the 16th floor.
As much as she disliked Thomas as her mentor, she drew a firm line between personal feelings and professionalism. She would never allow herself to slack off when it came to patients.
But when she arrived at the patient’s room, she was surprised to find someone had already arrived ahead of her.
Inside the room, Thomas stood by the window, dressed in a pristine white coat, his posture straight and composed like a towering pine.
With his head slightly tilted up, his sharp features were calm and focused as he studied the brain CT scan in his hands. The golden sunlight poured through the canopy of red maple leaves outside, scattering across his chiseled face and enveloping him in a soft, glowing aura as though he were gilded in light.
The shimmering radiance seeped into the dark pools of his eyes, adding a soft, luminous sheen to his gem–like irises.
At that moment, he was a sight so breathtaking that even a single glance could leave someone utterly spellbound.
Rosalie lost herself for a few seconds, but then she heard Thomas’s voice coming from inside, faintly chiding, “What are you standing there for? Come in already!”
He used that stiff, unyielding tone again! What’s with the attitude? How annoying!
Is this guy some kind of magician with eyes at the back of his head? He hasn’t even turned around, yet somehow he knows I am here?

Though reluctant, Rosalie still hurried into the room.
