Thomas‘ words abruptly stopped as his gaze landed on Rosalie standing by the door.
Rosalie froze as well, clearly not expecting that Thomas and Raymond were acquainted.
“Do you … know each other?” she asked in confusion, her eyes shifting between the two men.
“Friends!”
“Patient!”
They answered at nearly the same time.
Rosalie was dumbfounded.
Rosalie frowned slightly, her delicate brows knitting together as she cast them a perplexed look. “So, what’s your relationship exactly?”
“Patient!”
“Friend!”
They both blurted out simultaneously, but the lack of coordination between their answers was glaringly obvious.
Thomas shot Raymond a sharp warning glance, and Raymond immediately clamped his mouth shut, lowering his head to avoid further mishaps.
“He’s both my friend and my patient. Is there an issue?” Thomas replied calmly, his hands tucked into the pockets of his white coat.
His tone was steady, his expression unreadable–no hint of fluster, no sign of guilt.
Rosalie was at a loss for words. What could she even say?
Still, something about their dynamic felt off. She couldn’t shake the feeling that their connection wasn’t as straightforward as Thomas claimed.
“And how do you two know each other?” Thomas countered, turning the question back on her with deliberate intent.
Of course, he did it on purpose!

“Huh?” Rosalie was taken aback, momentarily at a loss for words.
Raymond quickly jumped in, cager to explain, “Dr. Lange, she’s my boss‘ wife!”
Rosalie was speechless.
She felt the urge to strangle Raymond right there!
Why does he have to be so chatty at a time like this?!
For some reason, Rosalie didn’t want to bring up her husband in front of Thomas.

Meanwhile, Thomas remained completely unfazed, his expression indifferent, as though her marital status held no interest for him.
Why would he care? After all, I’m about to get married soon, right? My past relationship with him is nothing more than history.
Yet, despite knowing it was in the past, Rosalie couldn’t shake the faint feeling of loss in her chest. It was an odd, inexplicable sensation.
At that moment, Raymond unexpectedly spoke up, “My boss really likes his wife! He treats her so well!”
Nonsense!
This is absurd!
I haven’t even met my husband yet! How could he possibly treat me well? What is he even talking about?
Rosalie screamed inwardly.
Thomas shot Raymond a cold, piercing look, but Raymond appeared completely unaware of the tension. He carried on, “My boss was doing really well overseas, but for his wife, he transferred all his important work back to the country in just six months! It was a tough time for him–he often went hungry and had no time to sleep at night! Now that he’s finally back in the country, he’s willingly locked himself away in a small church for his wife! Dr. Lange, don’t you think my boss is amazing?”
Rosalie’s mouth twitched slightly, thinking to herself that Raymond’s talent for boasting was truly impressive!
Thomas fixed Raymond with a cold, penetrating stare, his smile almost mocking. “Raymond, you talk too much. Aren’t you worried your boss will cut your annual bonus? Isn’t it a seve

“Seven–figure bonus?”
Rosalie was stunned!

Even the bonus is in the millions? This assistant is definitely living the dream…
I wonder if their boss is still looking for more staff.
After hearing Thomas‘ warning, Raymond immediately fell silent, his expression resembling that of a scolded child. He turned to Rosalie and muttered, “Madam, don’t be fooled by the seven–figure bonus. As assistants, we work hard every day, but sometimes we have to team up with the boss and do some … collusion and deceit that aren’t meant to be seen.”
Like right now, for instance!
