Julian waved his assistant off, annoyed. “Drag her out.”
Ophelia shrieked, “Julian, you heartless bastard! You didn’t give a shit about your wife when we were screwing. You came to me every night, cheated on Chloe–now you wanna play Mr. Nice Guy? She’s dead, jumpin‘ off a building! Only I’ll be with you now!”
“Get me to a hospital, or this baby’s gone–and so am I!”
“Julian Vance doesn’t need a gold – digger like you. Scram before I toss you out myself.”
As the assistant hauled her away, Ophelia’s screams echoed: “You and your daughter are the real monsters! You plotted to kill your wife, then pinned it on me! You got no shame!”
“Julian, you’re a sleaze! You chased me when I didn’t want you, then crawled back when I came home. Chloe loved you, and you treated her like trash. Now she’s dead and won’t forgive you–you deserve this, you asshole!”
“Make sure she loses that kid,” Julian snarled. “I won’t have a sleaze like her carrying my blood.”
The assistant dragged her out like roadkill, leaving a trail of blood that looked straight out of a horror movie.
Days later, the assistant burst in with a report. “Sir–Ma’am might still be alive. Look.”
The report showed pig’s blood at the scene, and the body’s DNA didn’t match Chloe’s. Julian whooped: “Chloe’s alive! She’s hiding
from me. Find her–now!”
Three months later, I stood in New York’s grandest chapel, marrying Brendan. Once disabled and blind, we’d both healed–him
walking, me seeing, thanks to top docs.
When Alia placed my hand in Brendan’s, he looked at me, soft – eyed: “Will you spend your life with me?”
“I will.”
As he slipped the ring on, the pastor asked him the same. “I will,” he said. Then, when asked if anyone objected, a figure rushed forward.
“I object! Chloe, don’t marry him!” Julian panted. “You’re alive? Why’d you leave us?”
“Mom!” Lily cried. “We’re sorry–Ophelia’s the bad guy, she got what’s coming. Forgive us, please.”
Brendan stepped between us, built like a tank compared to Julian’s office – soft frame. “Julian Vance, you sent goons to beat Chloe, blinded her–you and your daughter cooked up that scam. Back off. Chloe’s letting you off easy; I would’ve sent your asses to jail by now.”
