Chapter 2

As Raelynn’s 24th birthday loomed and the arranged marriage date got closer, she had been honest multiple times. Yet, not only did they refuse to believe her, they were also increasingly disgusted by her, spurred on by Alice’s provo-

cations.

In her moment of despair, Raelynn received a message from Adam, the eldest brother.

“The marriage alliance is inevitable. I am willing to step up and marry you. Meet me at City Hall.”

Overjoyed, she grabbed her ID card and stood outside City Hall, foolishly waiting in the rain for the entire day, but he never arrived.

She came down with a high fever that lasted through the night and into the next day. The following day, she got a call from Benjamin, the second brother.

“Raelynn, I heard you waited all day and night for Adam yesterday. Are you that eager to get married? If you can find the pair of rings I buried in the garden, I’ll marry you.”

Raelynn believed it again. She spent an entire day meticulously combing through the garden, even damaging her nails in the process, only to discover that he had deceived her yet again.

On the third day, Charlie, the youngest brother, invited her to watch meteor showers from a mountain. However, once they reached the summit, he made up an excuse, abandoned her there, and took all the transportation with him.

She made her way back, bruised and battered, and confronted them, only to hear them say, “We’re just playing a prank on her. We never intended to marry her. She purposely caused Alice to get caught in the rain and fall that day, resulting in her injury. This is just payback for Alice.”

Upon hearing the news, Raelynn felt utterly disheartened.

She walked home in the rain, pondering the situation all night until she finally had a breakthrough.

The marriage alliance was unavoidable, but she realized the partner could be altered!

At last, she wouldn’t have to compromise with them anymore.

Just as she arrived home, she heard footsteps approaching outside the door.

Adam stormed in with a dark, angry expression. “Raelynn, I’ve told you over and over that I have no intention of mar- rying you. Yet you persistently pursue this marriage, even coming to our home to discuss it. Are you that eager to get married?”

Benjamin came in right after him, his eyes cold and impatient, his voice detached and emotionless. “I’ve also told you many times that the person I care about is Alice. What kind of respectable lady behaves as shamelessly as you do?”

Charlie knitted his brows, his rebellious demeanor filled with annoyance. “Out of the three of us, who exactly did you

choose?”

Raelynn glanced at the three familiar faces, each radiating a different vibe, and said icily, “I haven’t chosen any of you.”

Charlie frowned. “What do you mean by that? Out of the eligible members of our generation in the Norster family, only the three of us are of the right age to marry. If not us, then who could you possibly pick?”

Benjamin’s voice turned aggressive. “You’ve been tagging along with us since childhood, acting like you can’t wait to get married. Now you’re saying you haven’t picked any of us-what game are you playing now?”

“Raelynn, regardless of what you’re up to, we’re never going to accept you!”

Adam rubbed his brows in frustration.

Raelynn took a deep breath. “Who says a marriage partner has to be from the same generation? The one I’ve picked is…”

Before she could finish, a bodyguard burst in, panic written all over his face.

“Mr. Adam, Mr. Benjamin, Mr. Charlie, there’s trouble! Alice committed suicide after hearing about the marriage al- liance.”

Hearing this, their expressions changed, and they walked out quickly.

Suddenly, Adam seemed to recall something. He turned back, his eyes glaring with disdain. “Raelynn, see what you’ve done! If you had picked me, I would have definitely bailed on the wedding, making you a joke to the whole city!”

Benjamin’s gaze was equally frigid, his voice turning as cold as ice. “If you dare to choose me, I’ll make sure a dog wears the groom’s suit and takes the vows with you on the wedding day!”

Charlie said angrily, “If you choose me, I’ll destroy the wedding venue that very day! I’ll sabotage it every time it’s planned!

“The only person we like is Alice. Even if you push this marriage through, we will never acknowledge you!”

Having said that, the three of them hurriedly exited the room, one after the other.

Raelynn looked at their nervous figures as they left, thinking it was completely absurd.

The choice of a marriage partner had already been made. From this point forward, she would have one identity which was their elder!
