Chapter 55
Nathan and Vivian’s area descended into total chaos.
All Amelia saw in the end was Nathan scooping up Vivian and rushing back into the mansion.
Not just Amelia–everyone there witnessed it.
Louie looked at Amelia with concern.
He wanted to say something, but with all these reporters around, he kept quies, just yelling at people on his phone.
The three Wessex siblings watched this unfold. Lester rolled his eyes.
The gorgeous woman also looked disgusted.
Everyone reacted differently.
As for Amelia-
She just calmly looked away.
As if the man carrying Vivian inside wasn’t the husband she’d lived with for years. Like none of this concerned her at all.
-The mansion’s horns blared again.
Then came the sound of helicopter rotors.
Amelia looked up to see the aircraft above.
Louie shielded Amelia as they headed toward the helicopter.
Amelia nodded and followed the security team that had finally broken through the crowd toward the mansion.
Cavendish Group personnel who’d been stuck in traffic had arrived and cleared an exit route for gala guests.
Guests filed out orderly, and with security maintaining order, the crowd gradually thinned.
As she reached the rooftop stairway, Amelia looked back one last time.
On the first floor, the crowd had parted automatically. Vivian had just regained consciousness, and Nathan sat beside her, head down, saying something.
His furrowed brow, pressed lips–everything showed his concern for Vivian.
“Let’s go,” Louie said softly, following Amelia’s gaze.
Amelia’s eyes lowered slightly, then she turned away without looking back.
“Yeah,” she replied.
Amelia followed Louie out of the
passage.
In the first floor hall, Nathan sensed something and looked up, but all he saw was the empty rooftop entrance and pitch black night.
“Whirr whirr whirr-”
The helicopter sound filled the air, and for some reason, his heart felt empty.
“Nathan, I’m sorry for worrying you,” Vivian said weakly beside him. “I was to eager, scheduled too much.”
Chapter 55
“Sorry.”
“It’s just… I don’t have much time left;”
Nathan’s frown deepened. Unable to bear her suffering, he shook his head at Vivian, indicating it was fine.
Meanwhile, in the helicopter, Amelia looked down at the city below.
Taking off from the hillside mansion, the helicopter flew over the congested mountain road traffic toward Cavendish Group’s approved low altitude flight path.
Traffic below was still jammed, but she could see a clear lane had opened in the middle.
The rotor wash was strong, whipping Amelia’s long hair around.
Watching the traffic below, Amelia wasn’t sure what she was thinking–just felt tired.
A suit jacket draped over her shoulders.
The jacket still held someone’s body warmth and a faint pine scent.
Amelia turned to see Louie’s hair tousled by the wind and his worried eyes.
He opened his mouth, saying something, but his words were drowned out by the massive rotor noise. She couldn’t hear.
Below, at the hillside mansion parking area, Nathan and Vivian had reached their car.
After helping Vivian into the passenger seat, Nathan received the auction item case from Cavendish Group staff.
Opening it to check, the tanzanite and pigeon blood ruby lay quietly inside.
“Right.” Nathan nodded, confirming receipt.
Watching the Cavendish people leave, he didn’t immediately get in the car.
The Bugatti Centodieci sat quietly as Nathan glanced at the reporters being held back by Cavendish security in the distance, his eyes lowering slightly.
Lips pressed together, Nathan pulled out his phone.
In his messages, his long fingers scrolled up, searching for something.
Finally finding Amelia’s chat thread.
Unlike the interface constantly popping with red notification dots, this one was silent, completely still.
She still hadn’t contacted him.
“Nathan?” Vivian’s voice came from beside him.
Somehow Vivian had gotten out of the car and stood by the passenger door, looking at him weakly.
“Is there a problem with the items?” Vivian asked with a smile.
Nathan put away his phone, shook his head, then got in the car with the case.
“I’ll take you home,” he said.
“Okay,” Vivian smiled.
The Bugatti Centodieci headed down the mountain, all other cars yielding the way.
Nathan’s expression remained unchanged, still that unreadable mask, but somehow helicopter rotors seemed to buzz in his ears
Chapter 55
People left the hillside mansion in orderly fashion, and the previously chaotic noisy area gradually returned to calm.
But online, the heat was just beginning to explode.
First were the elite insider betting pools.
Two bets had been placed on the 888 vs 823 bidding war: who would ultimately win the item, and after Nathan entered personally, how many rounds would 823 dare to follow.
The first had no real suspense–Nathan’s wealth was obvious, so odds were extremely low,
The second was a total upset. Nobody got the count right, so the house cleaned up.
“823 was incredible. Not only did she get the psychological edge on Nathan, she wiped out all our bets too.”
“But unlimited money is still badass. When can I be like Nathan–not worry about any tricks, just crush with pure cash. Doesn’t matter how clever 823’s psychology was, she still lost to unlimited money.”
“You talk like unlimited money is monopoly money that you can just have.”
“Haha, for Nathan, isn’t it basically monopoly money?”
“True that.”
People discussed while the house grinned.
These bets were pocket change for them, but even pocket change made the house happy.
Most importantly, tonight this masked woman had left a deep impression on countless elite minds.
If they didn’t know she was a Cavendish Entertainment artist, they’d be trying to poach her.
Though Cavendish Entertainment was just Louie’s operation, Cavendish Group was one of New York’s big three, so they couldn’t guarantee better terms than Cavendish Entertainment offered.
This was just elite insider chatter.
Reports from inside the mansion needed approval before release.
What shot straight to the top of trending online was: #NathanGoesNoLimitForMivian
Followed immediately by: #VivianCollapsesFromCharityWorkOverload
The images showed the burning drone lantern and firework streamers above the mansion, plus Vivian collapsing in front of everyone after her speech and Nathan carrying her away.
