Chapter 1
When my husband shoved me down the stairs, he suddenly felt like a stranger.
I loved him for a whole decade. To become his wife, I even drove his first love away.
Six years into our marriage, he was still out every night, messing around with other women.
No matter how many times he hurt me, I never once thought about leaving.
But today, he crossed a line–bringing another woman into our home, into our bed.
I took a deep breath, my nails digging into my palms.
I glanced down and realized the new bag I’d just bought had slipped from my hands, its contents scattered at my feet.
They were mixed in with the clothes strewn across the floor–a chaotic, heartbreaking sight.
That’s when I knew–I had been reborn.
In my previous life, I would’ve stormed in without thinking, fought with the cheaters inside, and ended up being shoved down the stairs by Fred Burnett. I died with my unborn child, full of hatred and despair.
But this time, I held the wall and slowly made my way downstairs. Then I sat quietly on the couch and waited.
I don’t know how long it was before he finally showed up in his bathrobe, reeking of sex,
It made my stomach turn.
He looked down at me without a hint of shame.
“Got company over?” I asked, wiping the corner of my mouth. My voice was steady, emotionless.
He just nodded and walked over like nothing was wrong.
I stood, cradling my stomach, and took a step back. “Is your guest still in our room?”
Fred froze for a moment, likely shocked that I hadn’t broken down–unlike all the other times I’d caught him cheating right in front of me.
Still, he nodded. Just as he opened his mouth to say something, a woman appeared barefoot on the stairs, loosely wrapped in my silk nightgown.
I recognized her. Nelly Crawford. The lead actress in that colossal drama I’d watched last night.
She clung to Fred’s arm, her eyes full of flirtation. “Mr. Burnett, who’s this?”
As she spoke, she made sure I saw the hickeys on her chest.

He didn’t seem embarrassed. He wrapped his arm around her and even grabbed her in front of me, making her moan.
“She? Oh, that’s my wife–no, correction–Mrs. Burnett of the Burnett Group.”
Nelly covered her mouth with one hand, eyes wide in fake surprise. Even her voice trembled on purpose as she spoke.
“Oh? You naughty thing. Why didn’t you tell me she was coming?”
Fred pressed a kiss to her neck and gave a sly grin. “What’s the big deal? That just makes it more fun, doesn’t it? And anyway-”
He turned to me and smirked. “We had a deal, remember?” He gave me a mocking look and said, “Mrs. Burnett, was- n’t it clear from the beginning? We both get what we want and don’t get in each other’s way.
“You’ve had six good years, and the Burnett family’s helped your family more than enough.”
He wasn’t wrong.
If not for the 30 million dollars he gave my family when we got engaged, the Dawson family would’ve been broke.
My parents and brother lived in luxury off the Burnett name, bossing people around.
I shut my eyes for a moment, took a deep breath, and gave a slow nod.
“Got it. Sorry for interrupting.”
I walked to the entryway, slipped back into the shoes I had just taken off, opened the door, and stepped outside, one foot at a time.
It was as if he sensed I was leaving his life for good.
“Wait!” Fred called out, his voice unexpectedly shaking.
I didn’t turn around.
And I didn’t say goodbye.
“Fred, I’m done waiting,” I said inwardly.
