Chapter 4
In the end, I convinced Daniel to heau the office. After all, I wasn’t actually sick.
From the upstairs window, I watched him drive out of the garage. As soon as his car disappeared, I grabbed my keys and followed him.
In three hours, I would receive Sophia’s call–the one where she’d tell me my sister had taken her own life. The thought made my chest tighten with panic.
This time around, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my sister’s death wasn’t a suicide.
Looking back, everything that followed–my sister’s death, my imprisonment, and my eventual murder–felt orchestrated. Like someone had meticulously laid a trap, waiting for me to fall into it.
But this time. I would ensure my sister’s safety. And I’d uncover whoever was behind it all.
I parked outside my sister’s company and waited for thirty minutes. Finally, I saw her and Sophia walk out together. They got into a car, and I followed them.
Sophia dropped my sister off at her mansion but didn’t go inside. She drove off, leaving my sister to enter the house alone.
The sight made my anxiety spike. The mansion had top–notch security, and the surveillance footage from my previous life had confirmed that my sister had been alone. If she hadn’t committed suicide, how had someone managed to bypass the cameras and escape unnoticed?
When she got out of the car, she looked perfectly calm–there wasn’t the slightest hint of distress. So how could Sophia later claim that I had driven my sister to suicide by selling her company?
And what about Daniel? If he truly loved me, why had he fabricated such damning lies, convincing the world I was a murderer and fueling the online mob that ruined my life? What could he possibly gain from it?
And why had the police claimed I had illegally transferred the company’s ownership?
My thoughts swirled into a chaotic mess, my mind a jumble of questions. Time was running out. I could save my sister this time, but the real culprit was still in the shadows. If I didn’t unmask them, what would stop them from
trying again?
Only two hours left. I frantically combed through memories of both lives, searching for any overlooked detail that might hold the key to saving her.
Scrolling through the company’s internal leave records, something suddenly clicked. My pulse quickened, and I grabbed my phone, dialing HR.
“I need you to look something up for me. It’s urgent.”
After what felt like an eternity, I received the file. Standing outside my sister’s house, I opened the document with

trembling hands.
What I saw made my blood run cold. My heart pounded, and tears streamed down my face.
Why? Why had my sister lied to me…erything I’d done–all my suffering–was for nothing. A cruel joke.
I left the mansion silently. By the time Sophia called me, I was already at a nightclub.
Her voice was frantic.
Ella, you need to come right now. Claire… Claire’s killed herself.”
Before I could respond, she hung up and immediately sent over photos of the so–called “crime scene.”
Staring at the pictures, I let out a cold laugh, then turned off my phone.
As the music pulsed through the club, I joined the crowd, moving in rhythm with the beat.
The DJ grabbed his mic.
Ladies and gentlemen, tonight’s drinks are on Ms. Smith!”
