David Gus hurried toward me, shouting.
His words made my stomach turn. How could anyone’s face be so thick?
“David, what are you saying?”
Snow Francis stared wide–eyed and rushed forward to embrace the agitated David Gus.
“Get away!”
David Gus shoved her aside, still trying to win my favor.
The guests in the room paused, watching the scene unfold. It was far more dramatic than any soap opera.
Snow Francis fell to the ground, unable to get up for a while. She let out a couple of exaggerated screams, then suddenly dropped a bombshell.
“I… I’m pregnant with your child! How could you do this to me?!”
Snow screamed in agony.
The room went silent, and David Gus looked even more stunned than before.
“What… What are you talking about? I’ve always been careful, how could you be pregnant?”
He looked at Snow in panic.
If this got out, even if Snow were just Mike Francis’s adopted daughter, David Gus would have no choice but to marry her!
Old Gus’s face twitched in anger.
“Such karma, such karma!”
He shouted to the heavens.
I shook my head, preparing to leave with my grandfather.
Despite Old Gus’s repeated pleas for us to stay, how could I possibly remain and continue this farce?
Did he seriously think I would marry someone like David Gus?
Even if I didn’t mind, my grandfather would never allow it.
The events of the evening spread like wildfire through R City’s high society.

His voice trembled with rage.
I frowned and replied, “How did I do anything to her?”
Mike Francis pointed at me, his finger shaking.
“Wasn’t it you who spread those rumors? Didn’t you want Snow to leave our family? Who else could it be?”
“You’ve ruined her reputation, and in doing so, you’ve ruined the Francis family’s reputation and Honor Group’s too! More importantly, you’ve sullied your own heart!”
He said this with great conviction, as if, if I were responsible, I should just disappear.
I stared at him in silence. “First of all, I didn’t do it. And second, even if I did, I just spoke the truth, something that was completely justified.”
“By the way, since you’re accusing me, should I also publish the story about you and Snow online and see how that
goes?”
My words left Mike Francis speechless.
He may have been my father, but his actions made it impossible for me to see him as such.
In the following days, Snow Francis cried nonstop.

Their conversation made me give up entirely.
