Chapter 3

The sun rose, and I felt much better. I went to the company on time.

The manager held my resignation letter and, upon knowing that I was going back to my hometown to get married, felt both happy for me and a sense of regret.

“You were not here, and I lost another capable assistant.”

I didn’t know what to say, so I hugged her to thank her for promoting me all these years.

After completing the process, my colleagues also got to know about my plan to leave and get married. They all started clamoring and insisting that I treat them to a meal.

I naturally didn’t refuse and immediately decided on the restaurant that Christian often went to.

Mainly, I didn’t know many restaurants, and the taste of this one was indeed good.

During the meal, I went to the restroom and unexpectedly bumped into Vanessa face-to-face again.

She smiled at me gently and said, “I didn’t expect my sister to come to this restaurant too! Speaking of which, this restaurant was introduced to me by Christian during college, and the taste is really good. We have been here many times

already.”

I smiled at her and was about to leave, not thinking that we were familiar enough to exchange pleasantries.

But she seemed to have a different idea, as she stopped me again as I was about to leave.

“Last time I noticed that every time Christian peeled shrimp for you, he would rinse them with water. Does your sister not

eat spicy food either?”

This “also” word made me unable to help but slightly tilt my head.

I used to eat spicy food, but every time Christian peeled shrimp for me, he insisted on rinsing them with water.

He said that it was not good for girls to eat spicy food.

I always thought he genuinely cared about my well-being, but now it seems that was just a habit.

And the one who truly doesn’t eat spicy food is Vanessa!

When she saw me not speaking, she slightly turned her head and scanned me from my face to my whole body.

“My younger sister used to be quite pretty, but unfortunately, this outfit didn’t suit her… Knockoff goods can never make it

to the mainstream!”

I knew she was implying that I was unworthy, and at no moment did I feel more embarrassed and humiliated than now.

Only under her victorious gaze did he panic and flee.

Back in the private room, the enthusiasm of my colleagues warmed up my cold blood.

Just as I was about to put that unpleasantness behind me, the door to the private room was pushed open.

Seeing the people who occupied two whole tables, Christian paused for a moment, then his gaze accurately locked onto

When we locked eyes, I saw the suppressed anger in the depths of his eyes, but I didn’t know why.

He clenched his fist and finally shouted my name, asking me to go out.

I followed him out without understanding, but I received a solid slap from him in the corridor.

This was the first time he hit me.

Facing my incredulous gaze, he showed no guilt or remorse, only a face full of anger.

“Why did you push Vanessa? You knew her foot was twisted. I said I would explain when we got back, but you insisted on

using such a brutal way.”

My face was burning with pain.

Vanessa hobbled over from a distance.

Her shirt was wrinkled and had water stains on it, it was dirty.

I was just about to explain when she suddenly fell to the ground with a thud.

Christian didn’t hesitate and bumped into me, running over to embrace her in his arms.

“What are you coming out for? I said I would bring her over to apologize to you.”

Although it was words of blame, when they came out of his mouth, they were filled with tenderness.

With red eyes, Vanessa shook her head at him and said, “It’s not a big deal. She didn’t do it on purpose. Don’t treat her like

this.”

“If his brother knew that you hit his sister, it would affect the relationship between you brothers.”

Mentioning my brother, Christian’s eyes flickered with a hint of unfamiliar emotion. However, when he looked at Vanessa,

he became resolute again.

“Her brother handed her over to me, she made a mistake, and I naturally had the right to teach her how to correct it.”

I chuckled lightly and couldn’t help but ask, “What did I do? Even if it’s a crime, evidence should be considered. By

convicting me without distinguishing right from wrong and even laying hands on me, have you ever thought about being

unfair to me?”

Christian clenched his fist tightly and glared at me, “You knew there was no surveillance in the bathroom, so you had no qualms about starting a fight in there.”

I found it both funny and painfully bitter in my heart.

“Since there was no surveillance, how did you conclude that it was me who did it?”

“Would Vanessa falsely accuse you? There must be a reason for her false accusation, right? Besides, I have known her for

so many years, and she is not a liar.”

“So, I was the person who liked to lie?”
