Chapter 8
The final day of the countdown arrived, and Liora still hadn’t heard those three words-“I love you” from Carmen.
Calmly, she picked up a knife and headed to the tallest rooftop in the town near the pack territory. Once there, she sent
Carmen her location.
Then, she tossed her phone aside and quietly waited.
News of her suicide attempt spread like wildfire across the pack. The pack members and townsfolk gathered nervously
beneath the building, surrounding it entirely,
They all craned their necks, all eyes fixed on the silhouette standing at the edge of the rooftop. They were buzzing with
gossip.
“Why isn’t Alpha Carmen here yet? If he doesn’t come soon, Luna might really jump!”
Finally, Carmen arrived.
He shoved through the crowd and stormed up the rooftop stairs. His expression was dark, his anger barely restrained.
He looked at Liora, his voice laced with suppressed accusation. “What the hell are you doing? Is this because you saw me
with Evelynne when you came to the pack doctor so you’re trying to stir up more drama? Don’t forget, you were the one
who smashed her head open last night!”
Liora slowly turned around, her gaze calm and unwavering.
“Say you love me,” she said quietly. “Or watch me die.”
Carmen froze, caught off guard by her words. Then, he let out a mocking laugh. “Liora, have you lost your mind? You really
think pulling a stunt like this will force me to give in?”
Liora didn’t respond. She just stared at him, and the knife still pointed at her heart.
He frowned, growing visibly impatient. He snapped coldly,
“Fine. I’ll say it. Liora, in this life, the next, and every life after, I will never love you.”
“Are you satisfied now? Then go ahead and jump.”
A flicker of pain passed through Liora’s eyes, but she quickly suppressed it.
She let out a faint laugh and dropped the knife. It clattered to the ground with a sharp metallic echo. Then, she stepped
away from the rooftop’s edge and walked over to stand in front of him.
Carmen stared at her, a strange relief settling in his chest.
He let out a cold scoff. “I knew you didn’t have the guts to jump.”
Liora shook her head. “You don’t understand, Carmen. Whether I jump or not doesn’t matter anymore. I’ve already given
up..

Carmen’s brow furrowed. He opened his mouth to speak, but just then, his phone suddenly rang.
He answered it, and Evelynne’s weak voice came through the receiver. “Carmen… it hurts so much. Can you come be with
me?”
His face immediately softened. “Alright, I’m coming right now.”
He hung up, cast one last icy glance at Liora, then turned and walked away without a trace of hesitation.
Liora remained on the rooftop, watching his figure disappear into the distance.
For the first time, her heart felt truly calm, as if all the pain and obsession had finally faded into nothingness.
She left the rooftop and headed to the pack elder.
Inside the pack hall, she sat before a long table. A pen rested in her hand, and a bond-breaking deal lay open in front of
her.
With steady fingers, she signed her name.
As the pack elder bore witness, she officially severed the mate bond.
She handed the second copy of the bond-breaking deal to the pack elder. “Please make sure Alpha Carmen receives this.”
Then she left and returned to the pack house.
In the living room, she opened the wardrobe and lifted out her own corpse, gently placing it on the sofa. From her pocket, she took out a note and began to write a few lines,
“Carmen,
The truth is, I’ve been dead all along. These past five days were a gift from the Moon Goddess.
She said if you told me you loved me, I could live again. But you didn’t.
So I died. And I don’t love you anymore.
You can love Evelynne all you want.
From this moment on, you’ll never see me again.”
After finishing, she placed the note beside the body and sat quietly on the couch, closing her eyes.
Slowly, her form began to fade, becoming translucent-until finally, she dissolved into countless points of starlight and
vanished into the air.
On Bridge of Echoes, Liora stood before the Moon Goddess once more.
The Moon Goddess handed her a bowl of potion. “Drink this. This time, it’s really time to let go.”
Liora took the potion and drank it in one gulp.
As the water slid down her throat, a single tear escaped the corner of her eye and fell into the river.

The Moon Goddess asked gently, “Do you still remember who Alpha Carmen is?”
A flicker of confusion passed through Liora’s eyes. She shook her head. “Who is he?”
The Moon Goddess smiled, satisfied. She waved her hand, “Then go. It’s time to be reborn.”
Liora nodded and stepped into the river. Her figure slowly faded from sight.
“I love you,” one whispered.
