Chapter 25

Nevaeh frowned, looking at the tearful Leona helplessly. “Crying won’t help now. There are other big shots here to- day, not just Mr. Wackerman. Dry your tears and find another endorsement.”

Nevach could ask Erasmo for another favor to smooth things over with Jacob. But Leona crying and smudging her makeup wouldn’t help.

Leona looked at the stain on her dress and cried even harder. “But my gown…”

Nevaeh sighed and called Anson to borrow a pair of scissors.

“Ms. Sterling, do you trust me? I can redesign your gown to get you through this party,” said Nevaeh.

“Of course, I trust you,” Leona said, seeing Nevaeh as her savior.

Before Nevaeh could act, Iris stopped her. “Wait. This gown is rented. If it gets damaged, we have to pay the full price. Don’t cause trouble. Or are you a top-notch designer, Ms. Tomlinson?”

Iris still blamed Nevaeh for messing things up, thinking she had ruined their plan.

Erasmo, who had heard Nevaeh ask for scissors, also came over. Seeing the confrontation, he frowned, “Nevaeh, stay out of this. It’s none of your business how they handle it.”

He hated trouble, but Nevaeh always liked to get involved.

Ignoring the others, Nevaeh looked at Leona. “Ms. Sterling, this is your gown. It’s your call.”

Leona wiped her tears. Thinking about her earlier treatment, she nodded firmly. “Ms. Tomlinson, I can only trust you.”

Nevaeh took the scissors and carefully cut off the stained part of the gown. Without professional equipment, she sewed it stitch by stitch by hand.

“It’s done. What do you think? No one should be able to tell. Here, put this on,” Nevaeh said, tying a small silk scarf around Leona’s neck.

The shortened gown now looked cute and sexy. Leona looked at herself in disbelief. “Is this really the same gown?”

A hint of a smile appeared on Nevaeh’s face. Yeah, are you satisfied?”

“Thank you, Ms. Tomlinson,” Leona said with gratitude.

“Don’t mention it. Now that the gown is fixed, hurry up and get that endorsement. Mr. Wackerman probably won’t dare mess with you anymore. Just pretend nothing happened today,” Nevaeh said, waving Leona off.

Nevaeh then sat on the sofa and rubbed her aching wrist, lost in thought.

“Maybe I haven’t known you long enough, Mr. Fenton?” Nevaeh replied, not surprised that he didn’t know. “I guess it’s not a big deal to you anyway.”

Erasmo raised an eyebrow, noncommittal.

They returned to the party. Leona had successfully secured an endorsement. She whispered something to a man near- by, who quickly walked over to Nevaeh.

Nevaeh didn’t know anyone at the party. She was taken aback when she saw the guy heading straight for her.

“Did

you help alter Leona’s gown?” Harold asked, handing Nevaeh his business card.

“Are you a designer, Mr. Larkin? What do you want from me?” Nevaeh was wary, not remembering any previous contact with Harold.

“Ms. Tomlinson, don’t get me wrong. I want to take you to meet my teacher. You have real talent,” Harold said gen- tly, his tone softening.

“Thanks for the compliment, but I don’t need it right now.” She had a ton of stuff to handle. No way she could spare time for design.

Harold tried to say more, but Erasmo’s cold gaze made him back off.

“Didn’t you hear her say no?” Erasmo said coldly, signaling Anson to take Harold away.

“Ms. Tomlinson, are you really not interested?-My teacher is very famous. Meeting him could take you to the next level,” Harold insisted.
