MY ORTHOPEDIC 10

Chapter 10

When the police took Zora away, her leg still hadn’t healed

She was crying and clinging to Elias’s leg until the officers pried her hands away

Elias, tell them I didn’t do it! You still believe me, don’t you?”

Elias’s lips moved slightly, his eyes hollow and distant

I tilted my head to watch them, wishing I had popcorn and a soda for this show

Zora, when people do wrong, they have to face the consequences.”

There’s footage from the accident scene.”

Elias Shaw looked utterly exhausted

I could understand why

Zora had been entrusted to him by his mother’s dying best frienda little sister he’d raised from childhood

Who would believe she could actually do something like that

The moment he mentioned footage, Zora’s expression changed completely

She straightened up, dropped the pitiful act, and wiped the tears from her eyes with her fingertips

Fine, then I guess I don’t need to keep pretending.”

Thanks for taking care of me all these years, Elias Shaw. Goodbye.”

She was actually smiling when she got into the police car

Dr. Grant ignored the hospital’s warnings, gathered evidence, analyzed the logic, and went through my case word by word before handing everything to my mother. Sue them. This is medical malpractice.”

If the surgery had been even a little bit later, or if Elias had bothered to check my pupils or order a CT scan, I wouldn’t have even needed surgerya simple burr hole would’ve saved my life

But Elias had violated his oath as a doctor by blindly believing Zora

In court, Elias admitted to all the mistakes, but the hospital didn’t want to lose their star surgeon. They hired the best lawyers, and in the end, it was settled with a hefty payout and a slaponthewrist demotion

They called it a demotion, but everyone knew he was still running the department

Chapter 10

Dr. Grant spent an entire afternoon pounding on the hospital director’s desk and still couldn’t change the decision

When he came out, he found Elias standing by the door. Dr. Grant’s round face was shaking with rage

Elias, do you think you’re the only one who can save lives?”

Our Elara was the most talented doctor too! You let a neurosurgeon die from a brain hemorrhage because of delayed treatment!”

Elias looked like he’d aged years in just weeks. Dark stubble covered his entire jaw. His shirt hung loose on his shrinking frame. He looked like a shell of his former self

I know.”

Even his voice sounded thin and distant

Then you better prove the hospital was right to protect you, and you better make damn sure Elara didn’t die for nothing!”

Dr. Grant was nearing retirement, but his voice shook with fury as he whispered his threats. Watching him made my heart ache

Don’t be upset, Dr. Grant

You’ve already done so much for me. It’s my fault for letting you down

You’ll have better assistants and students

Elias’s hands trembled slightly in his sleeves, but he never looked up
