Chapter 6
“Aurora, if you’re trying to kill yourself, don’t drag me into it!”
Layla’s face turned red with anger, and she almost shouted.
But the next second, before I could even counter, the crowd spoke up for me.
“Layla, what do you mean by that? Is all the treatment you’ve been giving us just an experiment?”
“Why can’t you use your own experiment? Does your life matter more than ours?”
Seeing Layla’s panicked expression, I knew I had been right all along.
She could only transfer the pain of her patients, not of herself.
In her mind, after the last treatment, I should’ve been completely dead, but to her surprise, here I was.
Someone even threw a bottle at Layla.
Under the pressure of the crowd, Layla reluctantly agreed to compete with me in the surgery challenge.
As the crowd dispersed, she walked up to me, clearly upset.
“Aurora, after all, we were colleagues before. You didn’t have to do this to me.”
I didn’t even look at her and just turned to leave.
Who started all this? She knew better than anyone.
The competition was set for a week later, and Layla sent me countless messages asking to meet up.
I knew what she was trying to do, but for the next seven days, I flew to another state to avoid any contact with her.
It wasn’t until the day of the competition that I walked into the venue, surrounded by curious onlookers.
The challenge was simple: we had to insert a regular gastric endoscope tube into our stomachs.
Layla was trembling the whole time.
Her voice cracked with desperation as she pleaded, “Aurora, is this really necessary? We’re at the point of no return. Are you still pretending?”
“You can’t possibly perform a pain-free surgery. I’ll admit defeat right now, let you return to the hospital, but please don’t make this a life-or-death situation.”
I turned my gaze away from her in disdain and picked up the microphone.
“I have something to say to everyone…”
Layla thought I was about to admit that I couldn’t perform pain-free surgeries, and her eyes suddenly lit up, as if a weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

But I just sneered and spoke slowly, “Recently, someone online spread rumors about me and Layla, and I was deeply hurt.”
“So, I spent half of my savings hiring a private investigator to find out who was slandering Layla, and the result was…”
“Don’t say it!”
Layla’s shrill scream cut through the air.
Everyone noticed something was off with her, and they grew even more curious.
“Aurora is helping her find the person who’s hurting her, and Layla isn’t even grateful. And why is she stopping the truth
from coming out?”
“Exactly. Dr. Hart, quickly, please tell us who it is.”
“If I find out who it is, I won’t let her off. I was supposed to have nasal polyp surgery a few days ago, but Layla canceled it
because of this. I’ve been in pain for days.”
Watching Layla’s terrified expression, I savored every word.
“It’s Layla herself.”
