After a long silence, someone gasped.
“Crap–she’s not breathing!”
Jesica let out a cold snort.
“Then take care of it. Cleanly. You’ll still get your cut–don’t worry.”
As the recording finished playing, everyone was stunned.
[Did I hear that right? That foster daughter actually admitted she planned all of this?]
[She even hired people to hurt Anna–and had her killed! We were wrong this whole time!]
[Call the cops! I don’t care how rich the Meyer familly is–no way they can keep protecting that fake daughter!]
But there were still skeptics in the chat.
[What if the recording was fake? What if someone synthesized it just to ruin Jesica?]
Back in reality, Mom, Dad and her brother looked shaken. They were ready to go ask Jesica directly what the hell was going on.
Just then, Jack called Chairman Meyer’s phone.
“Chairman Meyer,” he said calmly, “do you really not suspect this adopted daughter of yours?”
“Want to make a bet with me?”
Inside the hospital room, Jesica was starting to feel uneasy.
Her phone had suddenly lost signal. When she asked brother about it, he casually replied that the construction near the hospital had cut the cables by accident.
“Don’t worry,” he said, laughing. “Maybe it’s fate telling you to stop staring at your phone and dc some proper healing.”
That explanation made her feel slightly more at ease.
But two days later, when parents and brother still hadn’t come to visit, panic began to creep in.
Unable to wait any longer, Jesica snuck out of the hospital.
The moment she reached an area with signal, her phone buzzed nonstop with missed calls and message alerts.
[That Jack escaped overseas and went live. He exposed everything we said that day!]
[Now what? Say something–what’s the plan?]
[Jesica, don’t think you can pay your way out of this. They already sent the recordings to be authenticated!]
[Shit.]
She scrolled through her messages in horror. Her accomplices had panicked when they couldn’t reach her–and they ran off with the bribe money that very day.
Hands trembling, Jesica opened the broadcast video and watched as her face turned pale with
rage.
Chapter O
3:56 am GDDD.
“Useless scum! You couldn’t even track down one guy?!”
Fuming, she began dialing numbers, booking a plane ticket–ready to flee.
Just as she was making arrangements, her phone rang. It was brother.
She forced herself to stay calm and picked up the call.
“Brother, I was just getting bored at the hospital, so I stepped out for some fresh air. I’ll be back soon–wait for me, okay?”
After hanging up, she rushed to the Meyer Family mansion.
When she’d first been taken to the hospital, everything had happened so fast. All her valuables were still stashed at home.
She needed to grab her things and disappear.
She moved quickly, heading straight to her Dad’s study. With practiced ease, she knelt before the safe and began turning the lock.
But just as the door clicked open, her brother’s voice cut through the silence–cold and sharp.
“So it really was you.”
Jesica froze.
She turned slowly and saw them–mother, Dad, brother. All of them. Standing there, staring at her with icy eyes.
The same people who were supposed to be waiting for her back at the hospital.
She dropped to her knees with a thud and began to sob.
“Mom… Dad… I was just afraid you’d believe my sister’s lies.
That’s why I wanted to leave–forever. I never planned to come back…”
Her Dad sneered.
“But I never told you the password to the safe. For the longest time, I couldn’t understand how Anna got it open.”
“Now I know. It was you all along.”
“Jesica, you really are a master pretender. If we hadn’t listened to Jack, we’d still be dancing in the palm of your hand.”
Brother stepped forward and held up the rabbit doll.
“The recording’s already been submitted to the police for verification. It’s real.”
Mother clutched the urn in her arms, sobbing.
“Why?! We treated you so well all these years! Why would you do this to my daughter?!”
“To use such a cruel, evil method to suppress her soul–you’re a monster!”
Jesica suddenly broke into hysterical laughter.
“This is all your fault!”
“Why did you have to bring her into our family?! Why did you have to make me share your love- and your money?!”
“She had to die!”
