Not Every Goodbye Waits for a Return 14

Chapter 14

Connor wasn’t just Julie’s university senior; he was also Samuel’s love rival.

When they were still university students, Connor had taken good care of Julie. They’d had a tight bond and had been one step away from becoming a couple. It was then that Samuel had inserted himself into the equation.

Samuel had fallen for Julie at first sight. He had pursued her like a man possessed after that. No woman would be able to resist his relentless advances. Not only did he give a bouquet of roses to Julie every day, but he also gave a diamond ring to her every day.

“From the first moment I laid eyes on you, I knew that I was going to marry you.” Samuel had confessed to Julie, his words dripping with adoration. “You don’t have to accept my proposal now, but I’ll continue giving you a diamond ring every day.

“I know that your favorite fairy tale is ‘One Thousand and One Days’, so I’ll give you one thousand and one diamond rings. I hope that when you receive the 1,001st ring, you’ll accept my proposal.

“When we get married, I’ll have all the rings sewn into your wedding dress. You’ll definitely be the most beautiful bride in the world!”

It didn’t take long before Julie gave in to Samuel’s relentless pursuit of her. Furthermore, Connor had to move to Kaubreta with his family for one reason or another. Connor also successfully enrolled in the postgraduate program in Kaubreta.

As a result, Julie’s budding relationship with Connor wilted before it could fully bloom.

The truth was that Connor had always had feelings for Julie, but he never confessed to her. Furthermore, he was about to move to Kaubreta, so he saw even less reason to confess his feelings. Before he left, he had only politely bid farewell to her and didn’t say anything more.

“Julie, if you ever get the chance to visit Kaubreta, make sure to look for me,” Connor had said. “I’ll be looking forward to the next time we meet again.”

“Okay,” Julie had answered without a hint of hesitation. “You’ll have to treat me to a meal

when the time comes!”

“Of course.” Connor had agreed with a smile.

Due to the fact that Connor never confessed to her, Julie had no idea that he had once harbored feelings for her. She always saw him as just a senior. In fact, she didn’t choose Kaubreta because Connor was here, but because her best friend, Jenna Hanson, was also here.

She decided on Kaubreta to meet up with Jenna to take her mind off everything that had

happened. She planned to stay in Kaubreta for a short while before moving on to another country. She would distract herself by traveling all across the world.

Since they had all studied in the same university, Jenna was also acquainted with Connor, and they had kept in touch while in Kaubreta. When Julie arrived in Kaubreta, Jenna was also the one who brought up Connor in their conversation, asking her if she wanted to meet

up with

him.

It was only then that Julie remembered that she once promised Connor to seek him out if she was ever in Kaubreta. She had then sent a message to Connor, asking if he wanted to have a

meal with her.

“Of course,” Connor had replied within seconds. “I promised you that I would treat you to a meal if you ever came to Kaubreta.”

Julie was surprised that Connor still remembered their promise, even though many years had passed since then. She had also only been joking when she made Connor promise to treat her

to a meal.

They made an appointment and had a meal together. Julie didn’t think much of their arrangement. In fact, she even invited Jenna to join them. Unfortunately, something came up at Jenna’s company, so she had to leave halfway through the meal.

From Julie’s perspective, there was nothing but friendship between Connor and her. It wasn’t

as if they were being indecent and inappropriate in public.

However, Samuel didn’t share her opinion. He had known for a long time that Connor had feelings for Julie. It was why he had always harbored a deep animosity toward Connor.

“Julie, do you have any idea how worried I’ve been since you went missing?” Samuel exclaimed sorrowfully. “I nearly went mad looking for you! On the other hand, you look like you’ve been just fine! You’re even going on a date with your old flame behind my back!”
