Chapter 16
Samuel felt as if he had been struck by lightning. He averted his gaze guiltily, not daring to
meet Julie’s eyes.
“Calm down, Julie. It’s not what you think…”
He never would have imagined that Julie knew so much about what was going on! He assumed that she only suspected that he was being unfaithful, which was why she had hired a private investigator to look into him.
He assumed that she had been heartbroken after the private investigator snapped some photos of him being intimate with Cynthia and sent them to her, leading to her decision to
leave him.
Before Samuel arrived in Kaubreta, he had prepared a speech that would help him win Julie back
“Julie, you have to believe that I’m innocent. Everything is Cynthia’s fault-she’s the one who drugged me. I was under the effects of an aphrodisiac. My mind was hazy when I mistook her
for you. That’s the only reason why I slept with her.
“She forced me to continue sleeping with her by threatening to tell you what had happened
between us. I didn’t have any other choice and could only follow along with what she wanted. You’re my whole life. I couldn’t afford to lose you. I would go mad if I did!”
Samuel planned to coax Julie by first delivering this speech to her before groveling at her feet for forgiveness. He would also promise her that something like this would never happen again.
He was certain that Julie’s heart would soften at least 70% or 80% if he followed through with his plan. He would then deal the finishing blow-he would sob and wail while groveling at her
feet.
He would then declare, “To make it up to you, I’m willing to transfer all my assets to you. Julie, if I ever cheat on you again, you have every right to kick me out of the house and to the
curb!”
Samuel truly believed that Julie would forgive him if he played his cards right. As for his
assets, it didn’t matter if he transferred all of them to Julie. She didn’t have her uterus anymore, so she couldn’t give birth to any children.
As long as she agreed to forgive him and rekindle their marriage, the assets would ultimately be inherited by Lucas and Anna. The results would remain the same if he did or didn’t transfer his assets to Julie.
He only offered to do that as a way to coax Julie back to his side.

“Julie, you have to believe me! The only one I love is you!”
However, Samuel never expected that Julie would be privy to so much of the truth. The speech that he had prepared beforehand was completely useless under these circumstances. The only option he had left was to think on his feet, which left him stumbling over his own words.
“Cynthia and I… The truth is, everything is Cynthia’s fault! She drugged me with an aphrodisiac and forced me to sleep with her! I wanted her to get rid of the child when she got pregnant, but her father was diagnosed with brain cancer around the same time and couldn’t hold on for much longer.

“His final wish was to hold his grandchild. If I forced Cynthia to get an abortion, then I would essentially be pushing my teacher into the grave myself!
“Julie, you understand that I had no choice, right? I couldn’t do something so despicable, so I could only agree and allow Cynthia to give birth to the baby.
“Actually, if you think about it, isn’t this a good thing? Think about this carefully, Julie. You don’t have any children of your own. If we take in Cynthia’s children, we could raise them as if they’re our own flesh and blood. Wouldn’t that be great?”,
