Chapter 17
The more Samuel went on, the more convinced he was of his own reasoning. He was practically moved by his own speech.
“Julie, do you remember that documentary about childbirth we watched after we got married? It’s all bloody and brutal!
“That’s the reality of childbirth! So many women suffer unbearable pain in the delivery room just to bring a child into the world. I even felt pain watching it. How could I possibly bear to let you go through that kind of torment?
“So, isn’t this the perfect arrangement?” Samuel took Julie’s hand and said affectionately,” Cynthia bore us children. You get an adorable pair of twins without any of the pain. One boy, one girl, and a pain-free mother. This is a good thing. Why are you angry?”
Julie nearly laughed from sheer rage at listening to Samuel’s outrageous remarks.
“By that logic, should I be thanking you, Samuel?”
“Come on, Julie. I’m doing this for your sake,” Samuel said earnestly. “I couldn’t bear to see you suffer. That’s why I figured if I brought Luke and Anna into our home, you could be their mom instead.
“Sure, they’re distant now, but that’s only because Cynthia hasn’t passed yet. She has cancer and is going to die soon.
“Once she’s out of the picture, you’ll be Luke and Anna’s mother. Give it time. They will come to love you.”
Samuel’s vision was idyllic, but would reality turn out that way?
Given how twisted Lucas and Anna were, they would most likely believe that Julie was the one responsible for their mother’s death.
With the way things were going, they would never grow close to Julie. It would be considered
merciful if those two brats chose not to kill her.
Moreover, Julie knew better than anyone that Cynthia didn’t have cancer at all.
“Stop lying to yourself, Samuel.” Julie shook Samuel off and said coldly, “You know perfectly well that Cynthia doesn’t have cancer.
“You two have been going at it so much you’re practically shaking the bed apart. How can a person with cancer have that much energy to have sex with you?”
Samuel’s expression shifted again upon hearing what Julie had to say. It was clear he’d already

noticed that something was off with Cynthia for a while now.

Of course, he wouldn’t admit it. If he did, he’d have no excuse to continue his affair in good conscience.
“No… No way.” Samuel tried to feign surprise. “I personally accompanied Cynthia to her checkup…”
Before he could finish, Julie cut him off coldly. “Samuel, the way you’re lying right now is absolutely disgusting! I don’t want to waste another word on you. Leave now, or I’ll call the police!”

“Julie, let me explain.” Samuel refused to back down and tried to grab her hand.
This time, before he could touch her, Connor swung his fist and landed a punch right on
Samuel’s face!
“I can’t listen to this anymore.” Connor flexed his knuckles. “Are you even capable of feeling shame? Cheating is bad enough, and now you’re acting like you’re doing something noble.
“You’re a disgrace among men, Samuel. I can’t believe I ever lost to a disgusting scumbag like you.”
