Chapter 19

Chapter 19

However, no matter how fluent Samuel was in Kaubretian, the police ignored him.

That was because it was Julie who called them.

Based on their experience, the police knew all too well that many husbands often used marital disputes as a cover-up for domestic violence.

That was why the police of Kaubreta were particularly vigilant when faced with disputes between couples.

They rarely accepted the dominant party’s explanations at face value. Instead, they would seek out the more vulnerable to hear her side of the story first.

“Hello, ma’am.” A female officer walked up to Julie and asked gently, “Is what that man said true? Is he your husband? Did he hurt you?

“Please be honest with me if he’s harmed you in any way. We’ll protect you.”

“That’s right, Julie. Tell her I’m your husband.” Samuel looked expectantly at Julie. “We’re husband and wife. We’re a family. Connor is the outsider here!”

Samuel was hopeful. He was certain that Julie would explain everything to the police.

After all, they were family. Whatever issues they had could be resolved privately. There was no

need to escalate things to the police.

Julie had always been a sensible person. Surely, she understood the consequences.

But instead, she cast him a cold glance and then looked away.

“He’s not my husband. He’s my ex-husband. We’re divorced,” Julie said icily. “But he refuses to accept the fact that we’re divorced. Even now, he keeps harassing me. I came to Kaubreta to get away from him, but I didn’t think he’d follow me all the way here.

“I want him detained. His behavior is threatening my personal safety!”

Samuel’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe his ears.

“Julie, how can you say that? I’m your husband. Why are you making me sound like a perverted stalker? I love you, Julie! I love you more than anyone else in the world. How can you do this to me?”

However, no matter how he screamed, it was to no avail.

After listening to Julie’s account, the police immediately handcuffed Samuel and escorted him to the patrol car.

Chapter 19

“Let me go! Let me go!” Samuel put up a furious struggle. “I didn’t break any laws! What are you arresting me for?”

He barely got a word out before a male officer slammed a boot into him. “Shut up! We arrest stalkers like you all the time!

“I know your kind well. It always starts with stalking. And then, you grow more twisted with time until one day, you fantasize about killing your ex to get even.

“If we don’t arrest you now, are we supposed to wait until someone is dead? That’d be too late!

Every year, the police in Kaubreta handled hundreds of disturbing cases involving men murdering their wives.

Investigations revealed that in nearly half of these homicide cases, the perpetrators were ex- husbands who couldn’t accept their wives leaving them after a divorce. So, they resort to secretly stalking their ex-wives.

The stalking would initially be motivated by a desire to get back together with their former

spouse.

But, as the stalking continued, they’d often discover that their ex-wives had moved on from the marriage.

Some would be dating again.

Those stalkers, consumed by jealousy, would often become so twisted that they would resort to murdering their ex-spouse to unleash their rage…

Samuel’s current behavior was perfectly consistent with the criminals who murdered their

wives.

He had even followed Julie abroad!

How could the police possibly ignore something like this? To them, this was a high-priority case. If they mishandled the case, it could result in a murder!
