Chapter 5
Elena jumped at the opening Theo gave her, twisting his frustration into a full–blown character
assassination.
“So that’s why you’ve been ghosting Theo all this time,” she sneered. “You’ve got someone else.
No wonder you were always whining about how he treats me better–when really, you’ve been dirty
from the start.”
She didn’t stop there.
“And to think Theo still defends you in front of his friends and family, calls you kind and understanding. What a joke. You’ve been using him as your backup plan all along. Playing the sweet mate while lining up your next option? Disgusting.”
Her words kept coming–fast, loud, and venomous.
“Theo told me all about you. How back in training camp, you were always cozying up to every high–ranking Alpha you could find. Acting sweet. Acting innocent. But everyone saw what you were doing. Some habits don’t change, huh? No wonder you were never good enough for him.”
My ears rang. Something inside me cracked wide open.
Yeah, I had worked with other Alphas during those years. Because I was in charge of logistics.
Because I pulled weight most she–wolves couldn’t handle. Because I was good at what I did–and
Theo knew that. He respected that.
Or at least, I thought he did.

And now? Now he was out here letting Elena spit lies about my past like it was gospel?
I turned to him, cold and burning all at once.
Theo’s expression faltered. He opened his mouth, scrambling.
“I–I never said that about you. Elena’s twisting it.
“Elena!” he barked suddenly, for once finding the nerve to raise his voice at her. “I never said she was cheating!”
Elena went quiet, clutching her robe, lips pressed into a fake little pout. But I wasn’t interested in her theater anymore.

I looked right at Theo.
“Drop the act,” I said, voice flat. “That sweet–talking, guilt–tripping crap doesn’t work on me
anymore.”
Then I pointed to the door.
“Get. Out. Both of you.”
He didn’t move.
So I reached for my phone and held it up.
“Or I call the cops.”
That got his attention.

“Well?” I said, voice like ice. “Your knight in shining armor just left you here. You gonna get the hell out too, or do you want me to call him back for your shoes?”
Her face twisted, her delicate expression cracking like cheap glass. And then, just like that, the helpless act vanished. She sneered.
“You know, Anya, it’s actually kind of sad.”
–
“He chose me again and again—and all you did was stand there and watch. That’s not just pathetic. That’s sad.”
She stepped forward, chin lifted high with smug satisfaction.
“You’re nothing but a clown in this little love story. And as long as I’m around, Theo will never see you again. I’ll make sure of it.”
I tilted my head, letting out a slow, cold laugh.

“Elena… you love him, right?”
Her face froze.
“You’ve always been in love with him. And since you couldn’t have him, you decided to tear me
down instead.”
I took a step forward, voice low and deliberate.
“But the sad part? I don’t care anymore. Because I’ve already rejected him.”
Her eyes flickered.
“So whatever petty drama you two have going on–keep it to yourselves. I want nothing to do with either of you.”
She opened her mouth, ready to spit back more poison, but I beat her to it.
Without breaking eye contact, I lifted my phone again and tapped the screen.
“Hey, Theo,” I said sweetly. “Still there?”
Elena blinked in confusion.
「
“Yeah, Elena,” I said, turning to her with a smile. “He’s been on the line this whole time. Hope you gave him a good show.”
Theo didn’t speak. Just silence.

So I kept going. “Theo, I bet you got a real kick out of it, huh? Watching me grovel while you got to play the misunderstood mate.”
“Well, enjoy the silence now. I’m done entertaining you.”
