Chapter 457 Letting Go
Chase and Susie were beginning to panic. Chase quickly said, “I’ll go talk to him.”
“No,” Susie replied softly. “I’ll go. There are some things we should finally tell him.”
She had a gut feeling that if they kept hiding the truth, they’d lose Jonathan for good.
Even though they’d returned home, Sierra hadn’t rushed back to school–she was worried.
Jonathan was too calm. So calm, it scared her.
She stayed by his side the past couple of days.
Jonathan knew she was worried and softened. “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”
He’d always been the one obsessing over things. But now that he thought about it, maybe none of it had been necessary.
Overall, Jonathan had mellowed a lot. The sharp edge he once carried was gone. Sierra wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad one.
It was in that state that Susie came to find Jonathan.
She glanced at Sierra and asked, “Can we talk privately?”
Sierra looked at Jonathan. When she saw he didn’t object, she nodded.
“I’ll be waiting outside. Mr. Yeager, I’m right out here.”
It was her way of telling him: whatever happens, she’s still here.
Jonathan gave a faint smile. Once Sierra stepped out, he looked at Susie with a calm expression.
“What is it?”
Truthfully, his reaction was completely unexpected.
Jose hadn’t overreacted–Jonathan really was calm.
Suppressing the unease in her heart, Susie began, “First, I need to apologize. We’ve kept some things from you. We always thought hiding them was in your best interest. But now, I want to tell you everything. Back then-”
Before she could finish, Jonathan cut her off. “You don’t need to. I don’t want to know.”
Susie froze. She had no idea how to respond.
They’d done everything they could to keep the truth from him before. But now that she was finally ready to come clean… Jonathan didn’t care anymore.
“If that’s all you came to say, then we’re done here.”

Jonathan stood up.
“Have Jose start learning the family business. From now on, he can handle it all.
“Jonathan, what do you mean by that?” Susic asked anxiously.
Jonathan glanced at her, his gaze more peaceful than ever.
He didn’t say anything, but Susic could already read the answer in his eyes.
He had let everything go–the hatred, the resentment, the weight of all those years.
And because he’d truly let it all go, he no longer cared.

Even if she told him now that she was his biological mother, it wouldn’t matter to him. He wouldn’t care why they gave him to Wendy to raise.
Susie’s heart raced with fear. But this fear was even worse than when Jonathan had been openly hostile toward her.
“Jonathan, please listen. We had no choice, we-”
“I said I don’t want to know.”
Jonathan cut her off again, gently pulled away from her hand, and walked out.
He should’ve let it go long ago. He should’ve learned from Sierra–just leave those people behind.
He didn’t want to know the so–called truth, or hear any excuses.
He didn’t need them anymore. Because now, he had a home of his own.
That thought pushed his steps faster. When he got outside, Sierra was still waiting. Seeing her settled his heart again.
He reached out his hand to her. “Let’s go home.”
Seeing how calm he was, Sierra nodded. She didn’t ask what he and Susie had talked about. The two of them went on like always.
The next day, Sierra was about to ask for more time off, but Jonathan stopped her.
“Don’t worry–I really am fine. I’m not pretending. I’m in the same place you were back then, you know? Whatever they do now… doesn’t matter anymore.”
His words made Sierra’s heart ache.
She’d been through it herself. She knew just how painful it was.
Now Jonathan was going through that same pain.
She didn’t show it. She just said, “I’m always here.”
“I know.”

With Sierra gone for several days, the lab hadn’t made much progress. Autumn and the others had tactfully avoided asking why she’d been out. But just because they had the sense not to pry didn’t mean White did.
As soon as Sierra arrived, White cornered her. “You’ve been out for days–were you sick?”
Sierra didn’t think she was particularly close to White, but he’d always acted overly familiar.
To avoid his endless questions, Sierra nodded. “Yeah, I haven’t been feeling well.”
“Are you okay now? Want to take a few more days off?”
White seemed genuinely concerned about her.
