Nate stopped in his tracks at those words. Slowly, he turned around and closed the door to the private
room.
He gave Johnathan a complicated look, then glanced at Shane.
“I didn’t think you two would ever work together.”
They’d only approached Shane in the first place because he and Johnathan were sworn enemies. Who would’ve thought these two would ever be on the same side?
Shane let out a chuckle.
“Wouldn’t call it cooperation. I just don’t like being played like a puppet. I prefer setting the rules, not following them.”
If they hadn’t dragged him into this mess, he might’ve stayed on the sidelines. But since they chose to involve him, the game was his to play now.
Nate muttered, “You really are insane.”
He regretted ever working with Shane. He’d assumed Shane would only go after Johnathan. Who could’ve guessed he didn’t play by anyone’s rules?
Shane didn’t respond, just smiled.
That’s when Johnathan finally spoke.
“Work with us, and we’ll push for leniency. Stick with White, and you go down with him. Your choice.”
Nate fell silent for a long time before saying, “You can’t beat him. He’s a complete lunatic. When he snaps, he’s not even human.”
The longer he stayed by White’s side, the more afraid he became. That man was terrifying.
Johnathan smirked faintly.
“Maybe in your eyes he’s a god, but not in mine.”
Nate looked at him, then muttered, “He has Victor’s family behind him.”
“I know.”
“Then I suggest you don’t provoke them. You’ll regret it.”
Johnathan gave him a surprised glance. So this guy knew even more than expected.

A few days later, he went to White.
“It’s all arranged. My suggestion is that you head to the island first. I’ll bring her to you.”
White raised an eyebrow. “Me? Go first?”
Nate nodded.
“If you leave now, Johnathan won’t suspect you. At worst, he’ll look into Shane – he won’t trace it back to me. But if you’re still here when she disappears, he’ll suspect you immediately.”
It was true. There were only a handful of people capable of pulling something like this off under Johnathan’s nose.
White considered it for a moment, then nodded.
“Fine. I’ll head to the island. Don’t waste time.”
“Got it.”
That very day, Sierra received word that White was leaving.
“You’re leaving?”
She acted visibly uneasy. White was pleased by her growing dependence on him.
“Don’t worry, we’ll see each other soon. I’ll be waiting at the base. It’s all arranged – someone will help you get out. If I stay here, Johnathan will stay on high alert. Once I’m gone, he’ll relax. Just hang in there a Hittle longer.”
In the end, Sierra reluctantly agreed. She reminded him multiple times to hurry and come get her. That reassurance was all White needed. With no suspicion whatsoever, he boarded the plane and left.
The official flight plan showed he was headed to Astrovia. But his people were already on the island.
