After handing the contract to his assistant to finalize the share transfer, Jonathan began to think over his upcoming meeting with Victor.

that, at that very moment, Sierra was running into Victor face–to–face.
She hadn’t gone out in quite some time. But today, Autumn had called, saying that Professor Martin had fallen ill.
Sierra had always been grateful to Professor Martin. As soon as she hung up, she had someone drive her to the hospital.
She instructed the bodyguards to stay hidden and made her way to the professor’s room–only to run directly into a foreign man.
She didn’t recognize him, but he clearly knew who she was.
Victor had thoroughly investigated Jonathan–and naturally, Sierra had come up in his research as well.
He always made exceptions for brilliant minds. He didn’t understand much about biochemistry, but he knew just how remarkable Sierra was in her field.
Speaking in a foreign language, he struck up a conversation, asking questions about the hospital. Sierra answered, but her expression stayed guarded.
Seeing her wariness, Victor smiled. “You truly have a kind heart.”
Despite being cautious, she had still responded to him–just in case he really needed help.
It had been a long time since he’d met someone so gentle. She reminded him of the love of his life.
Even though he had imprisoned her and done terrible things, every time he injured himself on purpose, she’d still soften.
Maybe that was why, even after her death, he couldn’t let her go.
Now, in Sierra, he saw the same softness.
He suddenly understood why Jonathan cared so deeply for her–it wasn’t just admiration, but attraction. He’d been drawn in.

Her eyes flashed with worry. She couldn’t be sure Professor Martin was truly okay–or whether Autumn’s call had even been made willingly.
Sensing her concern, Victor said, “Don’t worry. I haven’t done anything. This is your country. And I am a law–abiding guest–I respect your laws.”

He’d been brazen enough to do terrible things thirty years ago. Now, as head of the Victor family, he was even more powerful.
“Excuse me,” she said. “I need to check on the professor myself.”
“Of course,” Victor replied, making a graceful gesture that carried the air of old nobility.
Sierra gave him one last glance before heading into the room.
Inside, the professor’s former students were gathered. Professor Martin lay pale in bed–he was clearly unwell.
“Professor Martin, how are you feeling?” Sierra asked, approaching the bedside.
“Much better now. I was just a bit shaken,” he replied with a sigh.
“What happened?” Sierra frowned. She could tell this wasn’t just a simple illness.
Sure enough, the professor explained, “Someone played a cruel prank. I received a package with a horribly mutilated dead rat inside. I thought it was one of my orders and wasn’t prepared–gave me quite a fright. I suppose I’m getting old and fragile.”
He hadn’t expected to react so strongly. If not for his family getting him to the hospital in time, he might’ve been fully paralyzed by the shock.
A grotesque dead rat sent to scare him–Professor Martin hadn’t thought much of it.
There had been similar incidents in the past. Some animal rights activists opposed their research on lab animals.
He had never been targeted before, but others in his field had. It wasn’t unheard of.
Autumn, Azure, and the others assumed it was the same kind of protest.
“Still, we should report it to the police,” Autumn said. “If your family hadn’t been home, this could’ve been dangerous.”
Azure nodded in agreement. Only Sierra looked grim.
The moment she saw Victor, she knew this wasn’t that simple.
He’d orchestrated a scare tactic against Professor Martin–just to create a staged meeting with her.
And all for a single conversation.
He hadn’t lifted a hand, but the professor had nearly collapsed.
Of course–he was a lunatic.
No wonder White was insane. He’d clearly learned from the best.
The professor had been dragged into danger simply because of her. Sierra’s heart was heavy with guilt.
