6.Chapter 6 Make Her Blush

Yvonne’s cheeks flushed, but she nodded firmly. “I know. I’m ready. But next time, I want to handle my own stuff.”

Lorenzo didn’t push. Most women around him were trying to take advantage of him. Yvonne was an exception. He’d figure out what she was up to.

Soon they arrived at Lakeside Villa. The butler had prepared the meal. Yvonne watched Lorenzo’s elegant manners across the table. His noble demeanor made her heart flutter unexpectedly.

He didn’t seem to mind her being there at all. Meanwhile, she felt as nervous as a teenager on a first date. It was embarrassing.

“You’ve been staring at me nonstop,” Lorenzo said, his tone dry. “Five times a minute over this fifteen-minute dinner.”

Yvonne’s face turned even redder.

Lorenzo’s lips twitched into a rare smile. “Eat something,” he said softly. “You haven’t touched a thing.”

She reached for her soup bowl, but her hands were shaking. The broth sloshed out, spilling onto the table. “Oh, God! I’m so sorry.” She leaped up, knocking her chair back.

Before Lorenzo could react, Yvonne was already sprinting out of the room. She locked herself in the bathroom, leaned against the door, and took a deep breath.

Her hands were trembling, and she ran cold water over them, letting the chill seep in.

She knew what she was getting into. Marrying someone like Lorenzo—powerful, enigmatic—wasn’t a decision to be taken lightly. But the thought of what was to come still made her stomach churn.

“Mrs. Hammond, Mr. Hammond sent me with some burn ointment.” Lloyd’s voice interrupted her thoughts. “It’s on the cabinet.”

Yvonne quickly applied the ointment and hurried back to the dining room. Lorenzo was gone, and she breathed a sigh of relief.

“Mr. Hammond is in his study,” Lloyd explained.

Yvonne finished her meal in silence, and then retreated to her room. She fired up her laptop and began planning her career comeback. While Lorenzo was busy, she quietly accessed Starry Entertainment’s financial system.

It was time to take control. She’d trusted Zell before, but never again.

Her heart sank as she saw the “invalid login” message. Zell had disabled her account.

Determined, Yvonne started typing furiously.

She hacked into the system, and her anger cooled as she saw the trail of money flowing into Yolanda’s account.

The finance team had covered up Zell and Yolanda’s shady dealings, but today’s transaction was still there. She saved the records, knowing she needed more proof to oust Zell at the next shareholders’ meeting.

After erasing her login history, she logged out just as the door clicked open.

Yvonne froze. Her earlier anger was gone, replaced by a wave of nerves.

“Did you put on the ointment?” Lorenzo’s voice was calm, almost gentle.

“Yeah,” she said, closing her laptop. “It worked well. It doesn’t hurt much now.”

He walked over and gently lifted her hand, examining it. “No scars,” he said quietly.

Yvonne paused in surprise at his words.

“Celebrities can’t afford visible injuries.”

“Got it.” Somehow, Lorenzo’s words made Yvonne feel relaxed a bit. She thought Lorenzo wasn’t as difficult as he seemed. He didn’t ask about her future plans or dig into her past—a quiet respect she appreciated.

After an awkward pause, Yvonne met his eyes nervously. “You know I’m going back to acting, right? Once filming starts, I’ll hardly be home. We’re married, but if you meet someone else, just tell me. I’ll step out.”

This marriage deal was clearly in her favor, but she’d walk away if she had to.

Lorenzo lounged on the sofa across from Yvonne, legs crossed, giving her a look. “I thought you weren’t totally dumb.”

Yvonne frowned, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

“The woman brave enough to propose marriage seems to have lost her guts.”

Yvonne pressed her lips together. “I don’t wanna just be a pretty trophy wife. I need my own career.”

“What do you think I am?” Lorenzo’s gaze turned cold. “Do I look like the type to rush into marriages and divorces?”

Yvonne’s eye twitched. She dared not say it aloud, but they indeed rushed into the marriage.

“If I agreed to this, I won’t back out. Chase your dreams. Just don’t come crying when you get hurt.”

Lorenzo’s words really caught Yvonne off guard. He was quite the surprise package. She’d heard all these rumors about him being cold and distant, but now it seemed like he might not be that bad after all.

“Come here.” Lorenzo crooked a finger. Warm light outlined his sharp face—handsome like a statue.

Yvonne’s heart raced. She swallowed nervously, hesitating as she walked toward him. Ten feet away, but each step felt like a mile. Lorenzo was dangerous even sitting still, his icy stare and silent dominance making her sweat.

As Yvonne got closer, she saw Lorenzo watching her with curiosity, like someone playing with a kitten. His hair, neat during the day, now hung loose around his face. A few strands fell over his eyes, giving him a mysterious look.

Growing impatient, Lorenzo suddenly grabbed Yvonne’s wrist and pulled. She stumbled forward and found herself seated in his arms.
