Chapter 6
When Liam heard that Jenna’s condition was stable, he felt incredibly relieved. Amy had been worried sick for the last two days. Now that Jenna was okay, she was finally able to get some sleep.
For some reason, Liam felt as if something was missing. He instinctively took out his phone and turned it on.
Since he’d been unreachable for two days straight, he thought I would have flooded his phone with countless calls and messages. But the minute he turned it on, he froze.
There wasn’t a single missed call from me.
Feeling surprised, he checked our chat and realized that I hadn’t sent him any new messages in two days.
“Please pick up. Ivy is in the hospital and she needs immediate medical attention!” my last text message to him read.
When he received that message, he glanced at it with contempt. He assumed that it was just a dirty attempt to vie for his attention, so he didn’t even bother replying to it.
All of a sudden, Liam felt incredibly uneasy. He was just about to call me when he overheard two nurses talking as they were walking down the hallway.
“Did you hear the news? Dr. Zimmer, the renowned doctor from Atlas City came all the way here to save Ivy Jenkins’ life. Thank goodness for Ms. Smith’s connections,” one of the nurses said.
“Exactly. It was a medical emergency. If it wasn’t for Ms. Smith, the child could’ve died,” replied the other.
When Liam heard Ivy and Yvonne’s names, he immediately got up and stopped them.
Frowning, he asked, “Did you just mention Ivy Jenkins and Ms. Smith?”
The nurses, Rebecca and Chloe, exchanged glances.
“That’s right, Mr. Jenkins. I don’t think you’ve heard the news yet. While you were reallocating medical resources the other day, a girl called Ivy Jenkins developed a sudden medical emergency at one of our hospital branches.
“She needed urgent medical attention, but there weren’t any doctors available to tend to her. Everyone thought she wasn’t going to make it. Fortunately, Ms. Smith managed to get a doctor from Atlas City. So, the girl turned out okay.”

Liam’s face paled. “Are you sure the girl is called Ivy Jenkins?”
“Yeah.” Rebecca nodded firmly.
Once she noticed that Liam looked distressed, she asked, “What’s wrong, Mr. Jenkins? Do you happen to know that girl?”
Liam’s heroic acts boosted his reputation quite significantly. The nurses at the hospital were incredibly envious of Amy and Jenna, who they assumed were his wife and daughter.
Liam slumped to the ground and said, “Ivy Jenkins is my daughter.”
Rebecca and Chloe burst into laughter.
“Stop messing with us, Mr. Jenkins. Everyone knows that Jenna Miller is your daughter. According to the reporters, you adore your wife so much that you let your beloved daughter take her last name instead of yours. Many of us are even joking about how we want to be your second-born child in our next life,” the pair said.
He abruptly raised his head and asked, “Who told
you
that?”
Rebecca pointed at Amy, who was currently fast asleep in Jenna’s hospital room, and replied, Ms. Miller, of course. She told us that you two are happily married. She also said you’d do anything for your daughter.”
“Yeah,” Chloe added. “Ivy Jenkins was literally on her deathbed, but her dad didn’t even show up to the hospital. How could she possibly be your daughter?”
Upon hearing what the nurses said, Liam’s expression soured. He instantly stormed into Jenna’s hospital room and slammed the door shut.
Woken by the loud noise, Amy stared at him with a confused expression.
“What’s wrong, Liam?” she asked.
Liam looked extremely upset. “Did you tell the reporters and the medical staff that you’re my wife? Did you claim that Jenna is my daughter too?”
He continued, “I haven’t even looked into how Jenna developed an allergic reaction. So, why did the reporters randomly show up at the hospital?”
For a split moment, Amy looked slightly guilty. Then, she laughed awkwardly and said, “It’s probably just a coincidence.”
She added, “Jenna called you dad when she was in pain. The nurses must’ve heard it and assumed I was your wife.”
