Chapter 7

Then, Amy tried to play the victim.

In an attempt to look understanding, she asked in an upset tone, “Do you not want the nurses to misunderstand the situation? If this is bothering you, I can go out there and tell everyone we’re not actually your wife and daughter…”

Then, she acted as if she was about to cry and slowly made her way toward the door. Not to her surprise, Liam stopped her almost immediately.

“You don’t have to do that,” he said.

Amy smiled. She looked extremely pleased.

She knew Liam inside out. The latter didn’t like to draw too much attention to himself. At this

point, clarifying the situation or clearing up the misunderstanding would only embarrass him even further.

So, before Jenna even developed an allergic reaction, Amy had already arranged for reporters to be at the hospital. She knew that if Liam mobilized the city’s medical resources to treat Jenna’s allergy, the public would definitely start talking about it. Once that happened, everyone would assume that she was his wife.

Afterward, even if I showed everyone my marriage certificate, no one would believe my claims. Once she paid some people to start some rumors about me online, she would be able to

effectively paint me as a homewrecker. By then, there would be nothing Ivy and I could do to salvage the situation.

Amy went through all of the trending news articles on the internet. Every single article was about how Liam did everything in his power to save her daughter. What she did was a risky move, but it had clearly paid off.

Pretending to act concerned, she asked, “What’s wrong, Liam? You look like you have a lot on your mind. Do you want to talk about it?”

Liam shook his head and sighed. “The nurses told me that Ivy had been admitted into the hospital as well. They said she had a sudden medical emergency.”

Then, he added, “I tried calling Yvonne, but the calls aren’t going through.”

Later that afternoon, Liam couldn’t stand it any longer.

“I need to head back home to check on Ivy and Yvonne. If Ivy actually went through a sudden medical emergency, she must’ve been terrified,” he said.

Before he could do anything else, Jenna wrapped her arms around his leg and started to cry.

“Don’t leave me, Daddy,” she wailed.

After being woken up by the commotion, Jenna stared at Liam with a huge smile on her face.

When Amy heard that Liam wanted to head home, she immediately gestured for her to do something about it.

Jenna immediately understood what her mother meant. She started crying hysterically and refused to let go of Liam’s leg.

“Come on now, Jenna. Daddy has something to tend to. Would you please let him go?” Amy said as she put on an act.

Jenna shook her head furiously.

“No!” she yelled. “He needs to stay with me. If he doesn’t stay, I won’t take my medicine!”

Liam frowned. He didn’t know what to do.

When Adam noticed how torn Liam looked, he said, “Don’t worry too much, Mr. Jenkins. Mrs. Jenkins loves you a lot. Even though you went abroad for three years, she was willing to raise your daughter all by herself while she patiently waited for you to return.”

He continued, “I’ve never seen a stronger or more devoted woman in my entire life. It’s just a couple of missed calls. She’ll probably be upset for a few days. However, once you tell her the truth, I’m sure she’ll forgive you.”

Upon hearing this, Liam instantly felt more relaxed.

Adam was right.

“Exactly.” Liam nodded with a smile. “Yvonne adores Ivy. They’re probably waiting for me at home as we speak.’

Then, he added, “Back then, she did everything in her power to become my wife. On top of that, her entire study is packed with diary entries about her crush on me. She’s definitely waiting for me at home right now.

“My mind must be all over the place because I’m too exhausted. I’ll just head home and spend some time with them after Jenna is discharged from the hospital.”

One week had passed.

Once our flight landed at our destination, Ivy and I headed straight to my dad’s home.

A few years back, my dad got bored of life in the city and suddenly developed the urge to go see the Specific Ocean. Then, he fell in love with the relaxed pace of life overseas and decided to move there instead.

“I’ll always be your safety net, honey. I’ve got your back no matter what,” he told me.
