Chapter 8

My dad looked overjoyed to see us.

“Grandpa!” Ivy exclaimed gleefully.

“Hello, Ivy. Did you miss me?” Dad asked.

“Of course I did. Mommy told me that we’d be living at your place from now on.”

Ivy and my dad burst into laughter.

After putting Ivy to bed at night, my dad solemnly asked me, “Now that we’re able to talk face- to-face, are you finally going to tell me what happened between you and Liam?”

I proceeded to tell him everything.

Afterward, I flashed him a bitter smile. “We shouldn’t have done that, Dad. Liam doesn’t even

like me.

“You can’t force someone to love you. I tried my best to make this work. Since he’s in love with someone else, I think we should just let this go.”

I continued, “Besides, I’m an extremely talented businesswoman. Let me manage one of your companies. I’ll make sure you earn millions of dollars in profits every single year. With how much money I make, I’ll have no problem raising Ivy as a single mother.”

My dad let out a huge sigh. “Things shouldn’t have turned out this way. I was certain that Liam liked you too. I can’t believe your marriage ended like this.”

I glanced at Ivy, who was currently fast asleep, and smiled resignedly.

Maybe my dad was right. If Liam wasn’t interested in me at all, he wouldn’t have married me

even if I threatened him with a knife.

Love was fickle. Even if he had truly liked me back then, it didn’t mean that his feelings wouldn’t change.

The next day, Dad enrolled Ivy into the best preschool in the area.

Prior to my arrival, my dad was struggling to deal with the company’s share acquisition. Now that I’d shown up, he was able to step back and relax while I helped him tend to his company affairs.

Two weeks later, while I was at work, I suddenly received an email from Adam.

“Hello, Mrs. Jenkins, I don’t know if you’ll receive this email. I tried every possible way to

reach you, but nothing worked.

“Hence, I assumed that you’d terminated your residence and left the country. You’re probably unaware of this, but Mr. Jenkins almost went crazy a while back,” the start of the email read.

I continued reading.

In the email, Adam told me multiple things that happened back in my home country.

After Ivy was discharged, Liam excitedly headed back home. However, once he stepped into the house, he instantly froze.

Our home, which was once warm and inviting, had become incredibly empty. On top of that, Ivy’s and my belongings were completely gone.

Initially, Liam assumed I’d just taken Ivy on a short vacation. Yet, after waiting for a very long time, Ivy and I never returned.

One week later, Liam began to grow anxious. He rarely spoke to me, but he decided to message me first.

“Where did you and Ivy go, Yvonne?” he asked.

To his dismay, the message couldn’t be delivered. He glanced at the red exclamation mark next to the text bubble and realized that I’d blocked him.

When he failed to contact me, he went to Ivy’s preschool to look for her instead.

“I’ve come to pick Ivy up,” he told the teacher.

The latter stared at him with a perplexed expression.

“Has there been a mix-up, Mr. Jenkins? Aren’t you Jenna’s father?” she asked.

Liam froze. He then realized that he was in a huge mess.

Prior to this, he’d only dropped by the preschool to pick Jenna up or attend the parent-teacher meeting with her. In comparison, he’d never paid Ivy any attention at all.

As a result, all of the teachers were under the impression that he was Jenna’s dad instead.

Frowning, he explained, “No, Jenna is my friend’s daughter. Ivy is my actual daughter.”

The teacher couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Then, she looked him up and down and said, “You’re truly one of a kind, Mr. Jenkins. You’ve attended every single one of Jenna’s parent- teacher meetings, yet you act as if you’re not acquainted with Ivy at all.”
