Chapter 3

Bligh Stark’s fragile figure followed closely behind him, both of them carrying household items just purchased from the

Supermarket

They were just like a young couple who had moved in together.

My aunt happened to come down to pick me up and caught sight of this scene. Just as she was about to speak up and ask question, I interrupted her.

“My mom has delivered the things she bought for you. Remember to check the expiration date and don’t let them expire.”

Arabella noticed the children’s unusual behavior and, as usual, comforted them, “Maybe dad is busy, shall we try calling

98am later?

While I was instructing the driver to carry the delivery upstairs, I casually said, “You don’t need to tell me about your work,

my mom bought it. She bought more for the next time you come; I don’t know when that will be.”

When Lucas realized that I didn’t misunderstand the two of them, he breathed a sigh of relief.

“No problem, the northern suburbs are not far away. Just let me know when you want to come over.”

He didn’t know yet that I was going back, and I didn’t plan on telling him.

Auntie wanted to speak, but when she saw Lucas carefully protecting Miah, her expression also turned serious.

The four people stood still for a while, and in the end, it was Miah who shouted ‘I’m tired” to bring it to an end.

Lucas immediately spoke up upon hearing the words, instructing the driver to temporarily halt the movement of goods.

He was told that he had few things, so he was asked to use the elevator first.

I watched as he held several bags of daily necessities in his hands, and I stepped aside for him.

Lucas’s eyes flashed with a hint of surprise as he hurriedly stepped into the elevator.

As the elevator doors closed, I felt like I saw my reflection in Miah from the past.

At that time, my aunt had just moved to a new house, and she was also eagerly running errands for me and busying

herself with me.

I moved all my luggage into his house and said with a smile that I was ready to welcome the future hostess.

My aunt sighed with regret beside me, “Can’t lask? We’ve known each other for so long. It would be a pity if we broke up

because of a misunderstanding.”

I shook my head.

“No need, there was no misunderstanding between us, he never let misunderstandings linger overnight, no explanation,

that’s the answer.”

Lucas and his friends didn’t buy a lot of things, they could move everything in one trip

Until I finished saying goodbye to my aunt and delivering the things, I didn’t see his figure downstairs.

Out of courtesy to an old friend, I took out my phone and sent him a message asking when he would be returning

As soon as I sent it, he replied to me with a voice message.

But when I clicked on it, it was Miah’s sweet voice.

“Sister Celia, Brother Lucas is helping me tidy up the electrical circuits in the house. No one has lived in this house before, and many places need to be cleaned up. You should go back first, so as not to delay your time!”

I was just about to turn off my phone and call a taxi when she sent another message.

“Celia, please don’t overthink it. Lucas was just helping me out, seeing how lonely I was living in the big city all by

myself…”

Thinking about my parents who had long been separated, I swallowed the words in my throat and closed the chat box.

After getting in the car, I was staring out of the window absentmindedly when Lucas called.

“Why were you so mean to Miah? She is my subordinate, what’s wrong with me helping her find a place to stay? The

company doesn’t provide accommodation yet, isn’t it natural for me to lend a hand?”

“Celia, when did you become like this? You had been wearing a cold expression at the birthday party, saying that you were

feeling unwell and wanted to leave. I haven’t had a chance to confront you yet, and now what are you causing trouble for

today?”

The sound of Miah’s sobbing came through the receiver.

The performance in front of me was completely different from the innocent and naive schoolgirl Lucas described.

I sighed heavily and finally understood her little scheme.

But I was also too lazy to defend myself.

“Well, it’s okay. It’s my fault. I was just asking. You can go ahead with your work. I have already gone back, didn’t wait for

you.”

Chapter 3

The unfinished questioning he had was choked in my throat by my indifferent words.

I hung up the phone, and the car happened to arrive at the entrance of the residential area.

After getting out of the car, messages from Lucas Company’s work group kept popping up.

When I clicked in, the number of unread messages inside was already showing 99 plus.

At the top, there was a picture sent by Miah of Lucas fixing the circuit pipes for her.

“Which boss is so considerate! I am willing to dedicate my whole life to the company! I want to sign a labor contract for

three lifetimes!”

Below are the voices of envy and jealousy from other employees in the company.

“I have never seen a boss like this before. Didn’t the cleaning lady say that the boss has OCD? It doesn’t seem like it,

though.”

Oh my god, the man who took off his suit looks so handsome! I will be Mr. Harper’s dream girl in the future! No one should

try to steal him from me!

“The picture was sent by future Mrs. Harper, wake up, working is your only way out.”

Before Lucas hired a secretary, I had been helping him for free. Later, he hired Miah to replace me.

But I forgot to leave this group.

After reading all the replies in the group, I deleted the records and left the group chat.

Having already decided to leave, it didn’t seem so heartbreaking to catch a glimpse of the scenes of their life together

after marriage.

In a daze, I remembered that back then, just after graduating and joining the company, he used to post my work updates

in the group every day.

The stolen photos were either taken while brewing coffee or while writing a schedule.

Everyone in the company could tell that he liked me.

With the help of love, even going to work seems to become sweet.

The dull work group also came alive with his surging affection.

But everything changed from the moment Miah appeared.

She took over all of my work.

Lucas started to prohibit any messages about me in the group.

I secretly and openly favored my newly hired secretary.

A colleague who used to have a good relationship with me once said that her work was not as good as mine, and Lucas immediately deducted her one-year’s bonus.

In the end, I secretly transferred fifty thousand to her, so that she wouldn’t be so angry as to impulsively resign.

After living here for eight years, but still not feeling like it’s my home, I simply packed up my belongings to take with me.

His gaze fell upon a thick photo album filled with pictures taken over the past ten years.

I held it in my arms and sat by the bed, flipping through it.

Each photo inside represents a gift that Lucas gave me.

Eight years ago, he said it himself, that after giving me 9,999 surprises, we would enter the realm of marriage together.

He tried to bribe me little by little with sincerity, making me willingly become his wife.

This album, specially customized with 9,999 pages, now has only the last page blank.

I didn’t expect to have wasted all my previous efforts.

I took the photo album and walked downstairs to an empty space. I lit it up with a lighter.

Watching the photos inside burn little by little, turning into ashes.

It also buried my eight years of youth.

When Lucas came back, what he saw was a scene that scared the blood out of his face.

He rushed over and pushed me to the ground, wanting to reach in and save me.

The scorching hot temperature was so intense that he couldn’t even get close, and his hands tumed bright red from being

roasted in just two seconds.

He was furious and stomped heavily on the photo album.

Watching the flames rapidly devouring each photograph.

He yelled at me angrily, “Why did you burn it? What’s wrong with you? I’ve been saving it for so long and you ruined it all!”
