Chapter 6

The day after the truth dropped, the internet completely flipped.

“Holy shit! Damian’s wife is actually the heiress of L&W Group?!”

“Some ‘replacement for a rich girl’-she IS the rich girl!”

“Damian married into royalty and still didn’t know how to appreciate it?”

“Eighty million in penalties… Damn, he really got cleaned out.”

I scrolled through the comments, unsure whether to feel vindicated or just tired.

My phone rang-an unknown number.

“Mrs. Grayson, this is Trevor Reeves, Damian’s agent.” The voice on the other end trembled. “Could you… could you give Damian another chance? He… he truly regrets everything now.”

“Regrets?” I leaned back on the sofa, tone indifferent. “What exactly does he regret?”

“He… He says he shouldn’t have let you suffer, shouldn’t have favored Serena, shouldn’t have-”

“Enough.” I cut him off. “Tell Damian our agreement is over. The divorce papers will be delivered to him tomorrow.”

After hanging up, I kept scrolling. Then my secretary, Lauren, walked in with an odd expression-like she was trying not to

laugh.

“Miss Lockwood, there’s something you should know.”

“What is it?”

“Damian is… downstairs.”

I paused.

“Why?”

“He insists on seeing you. Security wouldn’t let him up, so he… knelt outside the building.”

I set my phone down. “Kneeling?”

“Yes, and…” Lauren bit her lip. “Someone already filmed it. The whole internet’s buzzing with clips of the ‘disgraced trophy

husband begging for forgiveness.””

I walked to the floor-to-ceiling window. Twenty stories up, I could only make out a crowd gathered in the plaza below.

My phone rang again-a video call from Damian.

I answered.

His face filled the screen, tear-streaked, kneeling at L&W’s entrance. “Evelyn, please. Give me one more chance.” His voice cracked. “I was wrong. I know I was wrong.”

More onlookers gathered, phones raised to record the spectacle.

“Damian, what are you doing?”

“Atoning.” He looked up, eyes bloodshot. “I hurt you. I’ll kneel here until you forgive me.”

“Get up.”

“No.” He shook his head. “Evelyn, I have nothing left. Film contracts terminated, endorsements pulled, even the house I live in is yours. But I don’t care about any of that-only you.”

I stared at him on the screen, unmoved. “Damian, you don’t care about me.”

“I do! I swear I do!” His voice rose, drawing more spectators.

“Then tell me when’s my birthday?”

Silence.

“What’s my favorite food?”

More silence.

“What do I do for work? What time do I usually finish? Why did I agree to our marriage of convenience?”

Each question landed like a hammer. Damian paled. “I… Evelyn, I-”

“You know nothing.” My voice stayed calm, every word deliberate. “Let’s be real, Damian. You didn’t marry me-you married

the Lockwood family connections.”

“That’s not true!” He shook his head frantically. “I really-”

Just then, a familiar voice cut through the crowd. “Damian!”

Serena pushed through, tears streaming as she tried pulling him up. “Get up! Please! This is all my fault-l ruined everything! Don’t do this, I can’t bear it!”

Damian stiffened at the sight of her. “Serena? Why are you-”

“I heard you were here…” She sobbed dramatically. “Let’s go. She’ll never forgive you! She never loved you!”

Through the screen, I watched it unfold.

Damian hesitated.

Just for a few seconds-but that was enough.

The moment Serena appeared, his focus shifted. His eyes lingered on her face; his hand reached to wipe her tears.

“Serena, don’t cry…”

I ended the call.

Lauren, who’d witnessed it all, hesitated. “Miss Lockwood…”

“Prepare the divorce papers.” I turned to my desk. “Additionally, notify Legal Affairs. If Damian fails to settle the 80 million penalty owed to Horizon Pictures within one month, we will initiate legal proceedings as stipulated in the contract.”

“Understood.” She took notes. “Anything else?”

I thought for a moment.

“Audit every resource Damian accessed through &W this past year-film investments, endorsements, partnerships. I

want a full accounting.”
