Chapter 12
Daisy arrived in full disguise. She wore a cap, glasses, and a mask. Even her hair was tucked inside the cap, not a strand out of place.
Even after getting inside the private room, she still looked wary. “Why do I feel like the two women outside were staring at me?”
Cassandra poured her a glass of water. “Those two aren’t paparazzi. Relax.”
“How do you know that?” Daisy asked.
“Because they’re following me,” Cassandra replied.
Daisy yanked off her disguise, tossed it aside, and plopped herself down on the seat without a care. She downed a full glass of water in one gulp.
“This is so annoying. They follow me all day. I’m not even dating anyone. What the hell are they following me for?”
Cassandra said, “You’re too famous. Even the smallest thing the paparazzi catch ends up blowing up
online.”
Daisy groaned. “If I’d known, I never would’ve become a celebrity. Now, I’m paranoid 24/7.”
“You don’t have any scandals. What’s there to worry about?”
The moment Cassandra said that, both of them fell into an awkward silence.
That night seven years ago was their shared secret, a haunting memory neither of them could forget.
Daisy took Cassandra’s hand and said, “Cassie, thank you for everything these past years.”
Cassandra chuckled. “What for?”
“If you and Professor Myers hadn’t shown up in time that night, I probably wouldn’t have made it out alive.”
Daisy had always been beautiful. She was bold and striking, with the kind of beauty that turned heads.
Cassandra, on the other hand, had a quiet and graceful elegance. She was delicate rather than showy.
Both were beautiful in their own ways, but Daisy clearly attracted more attention from men.
The problem started back in college. As the campus belle, Daisy’s popularity was overwhelming.
Sha had a passion for the arts and took part in every college performance and singing contest, often walking away with first place. Because of that, she had already gained some fame in college and received several business cards from talent scouts who hoped to sign her on and turn her into a star.
Her future should have been smooth, bright, and full of promise.
But things changed on the night of their senior graduation party. Daisy was wearing a cropped top and a
Chap
short skirt. She was walking past a nearby construction site when someone covered her mouth and nose,
and she was dragged to a hotel.
It was the hotel receptionist who sensed something was wrong and called the police.
The police contacted the student advisor, but he was out of town, so he called his friend, Javier, to help
handle the situation. Javier had a daughter of his own, so he understood how damaging it could be for a
young woman’s reputation and mental health if this got out.
Cassandra had also gone out to look for Daisy, who hadn’t returned for hours. After a quick discussion,
the two of them rushed to the hotel together.
Javier arrived with the police and helped subdue the group of drunken workers. Cassandra stayed at the hotel with Daisy and kept her company through the night.
When Cassandra found Daisy, her clothes were torn to pieces, and her body was covered in bruises.
When Daisy saw Cassandra, she couldn’t speak a word. She just clung to her and cried.
Javier was worried it wouldn’t be safe for the two of them to stay in the hotel, so he stood guard in the
hallway all night.
The next morning, Daisy’s parents arrived and brought her back home. Only after that did Cassandra leave the hotel with Javier and return to campus.
Javier told her, “From today on, only the two of us know what happened. You can’t tell anyone else about
this, or Daisy’s life will be ruined.”
Cassandra understood and kept the secret buried deep inside her from that day on.
Daisy sighed. “That night still feels like a nightmare. Even after all these years, I still wake up in cold
sweats.”
Cassandra comforted her, saying, “It’s all in the past. Look at you now. You’re doing great, my superstar
Daisy.”
Daisy rolled her eyes. “Excuse you, I go by Denise now. It’s my stage name.”
