Chapter 20
Cassandra started packing as soon as she got home.
When Cameron came back, his clothes were wrinkled, and he seemed extremely exhausted. When he saw Cassandra’s nearly packed suitcase, he walked over with a dark expression and grabbed her hand.
What are you doing?”
Cassandra shoved him aside. “Get out of my way.”
He tried to hold back his anger. “You’re a grown woman, Cassie. Are you seriously running away like a teenager? I must’ve spoiled you too much all these years.”
Cassandra froze for a second, her hands hovering over her suitcase.
He was right. He had spoiled her–all while getting another woman pregnant. That really was too much.
I’m sorry, Cassie,” Cameron said as he lowered his head. “I’m just tired, and my mood’s been off today. But Cassie, could you at least try to see where I’m coming from?”
Cassandra kept packing. “You took your little sweetheart to the hospital for prenatal care. What more do you expect from me? Should I go help her through postpartum recovery too?”
He rubbed his temples and slumped onto the edge of the bed. “Can we stop fighting already?*
“Of course, we can. Divorce me, and I promise I’ll never argue with you again,” she said.
Cameron’s gaze darkened instantly, and a suffocating tension filled the air around him. “No way. Don’t
even think about it.”
His reaction only made Cassandra more thankful that she had asked Ryan for help beforehand. She had gotten everything done quietly without anyone noticing. If it weren’t for this annoying cooling–off period, she would’ve been long gone.
Cameron said, “My mom almost cried herself sick today. I had no choice. I’ve been negotiating with Annabelle. I’ll give her some money so that she can quietly get an abortion without my parents ever
knowing.”
Cassandra scoffed. “So, she really is pregnant? I thought you said you didn’t finish?”
“I don’t know how it happened either. She got a blood test done at the hospital today, and she really is
pregnant.”
She replied softly, “You might want to check if she’s pregnant with someone else’s baby.”
Cameron shook his head. “No way. I already had someone look into who Annabelle’s been around. Nothing suspicious came up.”
That meant the child really was his. Even without finishing, Annabelle had somehow managed to get
pregnant. That was just unbelievable.
Cameron looked up, licked his lips, and cautiously asked, “Cassie, since you’re so against giving birth yourself, I was wondering if maybe…”
“You’re not seriously thinking about keeping the baby and getting rid of Annabelle, are you?”
Cassandra said exactly what was on his mind. He let out a helpless sigh. “It’s the best solution I can come up with right now.”
Cassandra laughed. “I don’t even want to raise my own child, and you expect me to raise someone else’s? What are you thinking?”
“It’s not someone else’s baby. It’s mine. Cassie, Annabelle was crying today, telling me she didn’t know we were married. She said she doesn’t want to be a homewrecker. She’s willing to give birth, let you raise the child, and then disappear for good. She won’t come back to Hannover-”
You believe that?” Cassandra cut him off. “Forget it. Why am I even arguing with you about this? It’s between you and her. It’s none of my business.”
Once she finished packing, she dragged her suitcase downstairs without another word.
Cameron rushed after her and blocked her path. “Where are you going?”
Stokelle.”
‘ll go with you.”
Annabelle’s pregnancy isn’t stable. I bet your parents already ordered you to stay by her side at the ospital, didn’t they?”
ameron opened his mouth but didn’t deny it in the end.
ne knew her in–laws all too well. Or rather, her soon–to–be former in–laws. There was no need to even
jess.
