Oh, that shirt? I got it custom–made at Rimona, It’s over 60 thousand dollars,” Ryan
answered casually.
This startled Cassandra yet again. “Do you and the tailor in Rimona come from the same crime ring? You’re both straight–up robbers!”
He shrugged. “It’s handmade and tailored to fit. Of course, it’s expensive. Oh, and I’ve got the payment receipt. The amount is clearly printed on it, so don’t even try to go around it.”
Cassandra clenched her teeth, cursing under her breath.
If she had known she’d end up running into two robbers in a row, she might as well have just stayed at the hotel to wait for Cameron. At worst, they would’ve had a huge fight. That would’ve been way cheaper than losing tens of thousands of dollars.
“What? Cameron doesn’t give you money? A few tens of thousands is nothing to you, right?”
Ryan probed.
Cameron was actually generous with Cassandra. He gave her whatever she wanted and even bought her things she didn’t ask for.
“I don’t want to use his money.”
Ryan raised an eyebrow slightly. “Is it because you’re about to get divorced?”
“That’s part of it. I’ll pay in installments. Once I find a job, I’ll pay you back little by little,” she
replied softly.
That afternoon, Cassandra got a call from an unknown number.
She thought for a moment, then picked up. On the other end was Daisy. “Cassie, where did you go? Cameron stormed over and practically tore the whole hotel apart!”
“I… I just don’t want to see him right now, so I left.”
“Are you somewhere safe?”
“It should be pretty safe,” Cassandra said. “It’s just… expensive.”
“That’s fine, as long as you’re safe. If you run out of money, I’ll ask Sally to transfer you some.
“It’s fine. I’ll tell you if I need it.”
Daisy sighed. “You should’ve seen it. Cameron looked like a raging lion. It was absolutely terrifying.”
Cassandra paused, then said, “There’s no future for us anymore. He just can’t accept it yet. Once the baby is born… he won’t have time to come looking for me.”
“But he still seems to care about you so much. Ive always wanted to ask. If he loves you that much, why did he cheat?”
“…Don’t ask.”
“It has something to do with me, doesn’t it?”
Cassandra didn’t reply.
“Cameron was yelling about finding Professor Myers too… Cassie, is your conflict with him related to the night I was raped?”
Cassandra sucked in a breath. “No. Don’t overthink it.”
“Cassie, did he misunderstand and think you and Professor Myers have something going on, so he went and found another woman to get back at you?”
“There’s no such thing, Daisy. Stop guessing.”
Even though Cassandra kept denying it, Daisy wasn’t stupid. She had seen how much Cameron loved Cassandra. She had also watched him at the hotel just now, repeatedly yelling about confronting Javier. There was only one thing that could connect all this–that night.
Daisy had already pieced everything together and figured out the truth.
“You’re helping me keep my secret, so you can’t explain why you were with Professor Myers at that hotel that night, and you couldn’t say I was there too. That’s why Cameron has misunderstood you all this time. He got so upset that he went and found another woman…
Cassandra suddenly felt a wave of helplessness. “Daisy…”
Suddenly, Daisy exclaimed, “I’m going to find Cameron right now. I’ll tell him the truth/I can’t let him keep misunderstanding you like this!”
On the other end, Sally’s anxious voice suddenly chimed in, “Daisy! Something bad happened! There are photos circulating online, supposedly from Cassandra’s college days. They show her going into a hotel with an old man…‘
“What?”
“No one knows who started it. All the forums are flooded, and the news is trending on Twitter. Clearly, someone paid to push it up! Everyone is saying…”
“Saying what?”
“Saying…” Sally paused. “They’re saying Cassandra seduced an old pro spot in grad school, and she willingly slept with him for that…”

Daisy roared, “Who did this? Find out for me!”
Cassandra let out a cold laugh. “I know exactly who did it.”
