Cassandra soon got a call from Grace.
On the phone, Grace snarled, “Cassandra, I really didn’t expect you to have such skills. You made Cameron abandon the company and his parents to run off to Stokelle to chase after you in the middle of a meeting.”
Cassandra didn’t bother to be polite. “Mrs. Dorsey, you were the one who leaked those photos to the media, weren’t you? You really enjoy seeing your own son humiliated, huh? You’re letting the whole world call him a cuckold? Do you think that’s funny?”
“Don’t you dare try to turn this on me! You’re the one with no morals! Cassandra, if you dare push me, I’ll expose everything!”
From the very first day Cassandra married Cameron, Grace and Simon had opposed her. This was all because she came from an ordinary family, and worse, Robert had even gone to prison.
In the end, Cameron threw down an ultimatum. “If you accept her, you’ll get a new daughter- in law. If not, you’ll lose a son.”
Then, he quit the company, ignored all calls, and took Cassandra to a small island for a month. For that whole month, they watched the sun rise and set over the sea. It was just the two of
them, alone in their own world.
Cassandra still remembered how deeply Cameron had loved her back then. He had loved her enough to give up everything and stand against his own family.
But now, he said, “My parents just want a grandchild. Can’t you let someone else birth it for you?”
It turned out that time really did make love fade. In the end, she and Cameron had never truly belonged to the same world.
Grace’s voice cut in as she said, “Name a price. As long as you’re willing to divorcé Cameron, I’ll do my best to meet it.”
“Name a price?” Cassandra laughed coldly. “Mrs. Dorsey, you’re too generous.”
“The Dorsey family is about to have a grandchild. You’re not worth our time. Think of it as spending a little money to get rid of trouble.”
“Alright. I want a hundred million dollars.”
Grace’s voice shot up. “How much did you say?”
“A hundred million. Think of it as ransom money for your son. Don’t tell
you’re not
willing to pay.”
Grace fell silent.
Chapter 30
A moment later, the phone was handed to Simon. His voice was low and forceful. “Deal.”
When Cassandra ended the call, she realized Ryan had changed into loungewear at some point and was now sitting on the couch next to her, leisurely sipping coffee.
She jumped. “Do you walk around without making a sound?”
“I’m in my own house. I can walk however I want Why do you
care?”
Cassandra let out a sigh. She was staying under someone else’s roof, so she had no choice but to swallow her pride.
Seeing that she didn’t snap back, he shook his head. “Ms. Blake, you really are a master strategist. You’ve already filed for divorce and are just waiting to finalize it. Yet, you still managed to rake in a huge sum from the Dorsey family.”
Cassandra calmly replied, “They were willing to give me the money, so why shouldn’t I take it?
“I thought you were too noble to care about money.‘
“Money is important.”
Those people had destroyed Robert’s entire life for money, stripping him of everything. In the end, he died without ever seeing his wife and daughter again.
Cassandra had thought about it countless times. If Robert had just been an ordinary office worker without that hotel, maybe those people wouldn’t have targeted him. Then, the three of them might have lived peacefully together forever.
Ryan’s eyes flickered. Then, he spoke up softly. “This is just a friendly reminder, but you shouldn’t assume people are that simple. That includes the Dorsey family. A hundred million dollars isn’t pocket change. Do you really think they’ll hand it over so easily? Ms. Blake, be careful, or you might end up losing everything in the end.”
Her expression immediately sharpened. “What do you
mean?”
“Nothing. Figure it out yourself.”
Just then, two beeps sounded.
