Chapter 36
Cameron’s eyes stayed fixed on Cassandra’s feet. He frowned slightly. It seemed unlikely to
him.
Ever since he started dating Cassandra, Ryan had been the only one among his friends who didn’t like her. Ryan had even gone to great lengths to try to get them to break up. Of all people, it couldn’t possibly be Ryan.
But still, it was better to confirm things.
Cameron decided to call Ryan right in front of Cassandra. “Hey, come out for a drink.”
Ryan sounded drowsy, like he hadn’t fully woken up. “Nah, I’m tired.”
“Stop sleeping. Bring your woman along. Let’s introduce her to everyone.”
“I’ll go alone. She’s been exhausted these last two days. Let her sleep.”
“It’s just casual. It won’t take much effort. You have to bring her,” Cameron said. With that, he ended the call and dragged Cassandra out the door.
“Daisy…” Cassandra said, full of concern.
“Don’t worry, Mrs. Dorsey. I’ll stay here. No one will touch Ms. Graham,” Harold stated.
Cassandra firmly instructed, “Find a female staff member to help her get dressed properly. And tell Sally not to mention today’s incident to Daisy.”
Harold looked at Cameron, seemingly waiting for his final approval.
Cameron nodded. “Mrs. Dorsey’s words are as good as mine. Go ahead.”
“Yes, sir.”
When they got to the basement, Cameron’s first move after getting in the car was to lock the
doors.
“What, are you afraid I’ll jump out?” Cassandra retorted.
He didn’t deny it. “You can’t be too careful.”
“I value my life.”
“I’m just afraid you’ll run again.”
During the drive, the two of them sat in silence.
Once they got to the bar, Cameron led her to a booth. He told the waiter, “Three bottles of wine and a glass of orange juice for her.”
The waiter nodded and left…
Cassandra had never really liked wearing high heels. Yet, she had bought a pair of sharp- pointed stiletto heels specially for today’s interview. They were beautiful, accentuating the slender lines of her legs, making them look long and elegant. But they were a torture to wear.
Cameron noticed and squatted down to take off her shoes. Then, he held her feet up and massaged them.
Cassandra frowned, trying to pull her foot back, but Cameron scolded her, “Don’t move. A massage helps with blood circulation. You’ll feel better. Why did you suddenly decide to wear heels? Was it for that old man?”
She instantly became alert. “You didn’t do anything to Professor Myers, did you?”
Cameron’s expression immediately darkened. “So, it really was for him?”
“Oh my God, what is wrong with your comprehension skills?”
“Sorry, you haven’t been on your best behavior. I have to be on guard against everyone.”
“Then, why aren’t you on guard against Ryan?”
At that, Cameron’s hands paused, and his gaze once again dropped to those black high heels.” These shoes…. What brand are they from?”
Cassandra had to rush her preparations before her interview and just bought them online without even paying attention to the brand. He bent down, flipped one shoe over, and looked at the logo on the sole.
